I'm trying to chip away at our migration to Lightning and I'm trying to understand how to approach Files and Enhanced Notes.

In a sandbox I added the Files related list to the page layout and in Set Up > Files > General Settings I checked the box for 'Files uploaded to the Attachments related list on records are uploaded as Salesforce Files, not as attachments'.  If I have the Files related list on the page layout, do I even need this checkbox selected?  I'm trying to understand when you would want to have this selected since it appears to be creating duplicates.  I now have one of these files in the Files related list and then another in the Attachments related list.  Are there really two files now or is it the one just showing up in the two related lists?  Why would I want this?

Also I see that with the Magic Mover app, you can't convert email attachments to Files.  Most of our attachments are from emails.  Are we just supposed to keep the Attachments related list because of this?  Or are we supposed to migrate those manually?  Also, after 'Files uploaded to the Attachments related list on records are uploaded as Salesforce Files, not as attachments' has been selected are all attachments added from emails going to also be added as Files?

This is very confusing.  I want to know how/when I can stop using Attachments and what is the order of operation that we are expected to take.

Also, do I take the same approach with Enhanced Notes?  If not, what is different?

. Thank you all for your comments. So many great resources.

My biggest question right now is how do I get to the point where I can remove the attachments related list?

I understand that there is magic mover and that doesn't convert email attachments. Are we expected to manually convert all old email attachments?

If not, then how are these being converted.

I also see in the article link below that you can edit the attachment settings for your emails in your org to send as a file or links. And the article includes 'Note: this doesn't apply for List Email or Mass Email features.' So are these still going to the attachments related list as attachments? How do we get these to be files? I'd really love to reduce the confusion and not have both the attachments and Files related lists.
