The font in lightning experience is exceptionally large greatly reducing the amount of information that can be displayed on the screen. How do you change the font to a smaller one (other than reducing zoom in the browser)?
@Rob Admin - When I look at the Contacts home page in Firefox (Win 10), the text in Lightning is 13px Salesforce Sans with a line height of 19.5px. In Classic, it's 12px Arial, and I don't see a line height setting.
Depending on what OS and browser you are using, it might be possible to install a user stylesheet to set your own styles.
I have not tried this, but I found Stylish, which is available for Firefox (
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/) and Chrome (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylish-custom-themes-for/fjnbnpbmkenffdnngjfgmeleoegfcffe?hl=en)
I don't know if you could configure something to hide the sort widgets, but you might be able to make the text smaller and reduce the spacing.
