Notes questions in lightning. We are working on setting up our desktop features and want to use the notes features. I was reading through what setup would entail and noticed something in this article:

This leads me to believe that you need to have chatter on to use notes in lightning? What does the notes feature look like without chatter?
We are moving from another system to salesforce and want to migrate some legacy note data over. I was reading a different article and it led me to believe that you cannot migrate data into this feature that you have to put it in the old notes & attachment section. is that correct?

Just a word of caution, you might want to pay special care to the documentation on enhanced notes regarding sharing rules and visibility on Enhanced Notes. On the back-end it seems to share architecture with Content, which makes view/edit a little more difficult to manage in bulk, and there are some content relational tables that you cannot query via API.
