using files from my perspective has many advantages compared to using record attachments and I would love to recommend to users to ignore the attachments completely.

However, the main disadvantage I still see is that, although files also appear in the attachments related list and from the users perspective look similar to attachments, from what I experience the references are not transferred when for example leads, accounts or contacts are merged. The file that was on the duplicate record just gets isolated in the files tab without reference to the surviving record.

When doing mass merges this might be a big problem similar to a data loss. Although the files are still there nobody knows about them and they lost there context.

Do you have the same behavior and how do you deal with it? Did I miss a special setting, is there something on the roadmap or do you have workarounds established to transfer the reference during merge process similar to attachments and other related records?
