How to get the value for screen flow 'Choice' option 'Display text input'?

Question

I am trying to use the option on a 'Choice' to allow a user to have free text option when they select the choice.

On the screen element, it is behaving as expected and seems to be storing the input; however, I cannot figure out how to use the input.

How to get the value for screen flow 'Choice' option 'Display text input'?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Since that's a long post to read, here's the quick version: If you call the choice directly, you get the default choice value. That's bad. Therefore,  create a text variable  named whatever you like Make the default value of the text variable the choice variable The text variable will magically contain the input text... Very odd behavior, but oh well.
