1) My understanding is that the difference between Task and Event is more or less that Tasks are only date sensitive and Events are date and time sensitive. Correct?
2) In our CRM, the Activities are all in one table and are distinguished by type, does this seem like the correct mapping:
- Meeting = Event
- To-Do = Task
- Call = Task (although some people schedule calls for a block of time, in which case it is an Event)
- Note = Either Notes or ContentNotes
3) I assume ActivityHistory and OpenActivities are just views and when we import into Tasks and Events, it will also add it to these views based on the IsClosed field in Tasks or if the Event EndDateTime is past. Is this correct?
4) We also have historical emails in our current CRM's database. We used to use Exchange/Outlook, which integrated with our CRM. About 6 months ago, our parent company switched to GSuite/Gmail, which does not integrate with our current CRM. Therefore, the emails in the database are purely historical. Would you recommend importing them as Emails or as Notes/ContentNotes (the team is OK with having these as Notes and not in the same list as current/active emails)?
Thanks in advance for the answers.

1) Tasks and Events are two different tables in the platform, but you're correct...Task uses ActivityDate (Data Type = Date) and Event has both an ActivityDate field and an ActivityDateTime (Data Type = Date/Time) field
2) Your mapping looks correct.
3) The ActivityHistory object includes completed Tasks and Events (IsClosed = TRUE)
The OpenActivity object includes incomplete Tasks and Events prior to the ActivityDateTime (IsClosed = FALSE)
4) I would import emails as Notes, but that's just my preference. You can also import emails as Tasks and set the status to 'Completed' and the Type to 'Email' - this will add them to the parent record's Activity History as long as you set the Related to ID (WhatId) - or Name ID (WhoId) for Leads and Contacts - to the correct Parent ID
