Our product line items have a custom field for Serial Numbers and TID's.
I have enabled the external search button however it is still not pulling up the opportunities linked with it.
Am I asking SF to do something that is not possible?

Hi Hayley,
If you case is : You have a custom fields Serial Numbers and TID's. within each Oppty Product Line Item and you would like to search them then I would like to tell you that you can not search opportunity product lines because Opportunity Product Line Items are not searchable
However, If part of your process is converting opportunity product lines to assets, you can search the serial number if it is in the standard asset serial number field. You could also search a custom field on the asset either through advanced search, or basic search if it is an external ID.
