I have 2 lookup fields on our opportunities that are updated via a process builder. We want the leave these fields as lookup fields so users can click and go to that record however we dont want the users to be able to edit these fields.
Since you can't make lookup fields read only is there another way I could prevent the users from editing these fields.
I though about a validation rule but wasn't exactly sure how to set that up.
When the system makes an automated record update like that which user does it look like the update came from?

Hi Lindsay,
You can make a lookup field as read-only at the page layout level if not at the global level. As you can see in the below screenshot Partner Contact is a lookup to contact object and can update as Read-only at the page layout level. Let me know if this works.
