Hi all,

We have a Parent Child object relationship, and are trying to roll up the sum of an amount on the latest of the child records - without using Rollup Helper.

I have quickly come to realise that you can't use a formula field that references two different objects in a roll up summary field, so I created a second formula field on the child to hold the amount, taking the info from the first field, considering a tickbox (still on the child) and giving me the amount.

However, when I try to reference this second formula field, which has a number output, it's not showing as a an option on my roll up summary? Can you not even use a formula field that references another field that is referencing two different objects? This seems crazy.

Any help appreciated.

    Hi Libby,

There is currently an Idea for this functionality: https://success.salesforce.com/ideaView?id=08730000000Bra0AAC

As a work-around, have you tried:

Create number field on the child (most likely you will want this read only or hidden)

Create a workflow or process builder to populate this field (can utilize formula)

Then on the parent, reference the field created on the child

    Hope this helps!

    Thank you,

    Heather
