I've been given a Salesforce trial org (Essentials edition) to begin to customize for a customer, and previously I've only worked with full enterprise edition orgs. I'm trying to discover whether some limitations I'm encountering are an effect of being on a trial, or the Salesforce edition.
I can't create custom objects or record types.

Im not sure while upgarde whether you will have all your implementations will be availabe in Upgarded edition..But You can check with salesforce support/Account Executive whether this is possible...
