Hello Everyone,

I'm kind of interested in learning Apex code and some Visualforce. I don't know a single programming language; where should I start? Should I learn Java? HTML? I'm hoping to at least learn enough to pass the Platform Developer I certification; it seems that you only need to know the basics and then maybe some intermediate stuff.

I'm a complete newbie to code in general, but I have picked up a few things. I've earned my Administrator and Platform App Builder exams (like those help!) so I'm not new to Salesforce. I do know some extremely basic things, like what DML, SOQL, and for loops are, but that's obviously not enough to actually write code.

I've done some Trailhead. I've finished the developer beginner trail, but that doesn't mean I can actually write any code. Are there any modules I need to really, seriously dig into and understand every last character to get started? What are some "for-starter's" resources? What helped you the most when you were trying to learn Apex?

Any suggestions?

I appreciate even the smallest help.

Thanks!

Parker

I just want to say a quick thank you to everyone that commented on this thread for their advice, support, and encouragement. As announced here: https://success.salesforce.com/0D53A000036WkAd I am now a Certified Salesforce Platform Developer 1! My next steps will be to learn HTML, CSS, and to learn JavaScript in more depth. Afterwards, I'll turn my focus back to Salesforce and learn Lightning Components and such the like and work towards the Platform Developer 2 Certification!
