I logged a case and it turns out my Org instance EU0 is to be migrated to the UK Data Center in Nov 2015 so no specific worries for me, although concerns raised above might still be valid. See notes on the Q&A link above.
I do feel that Salesforce could have handled the communication on this issue better. ;)
