The Hidden Tax on Your Sales Team
Your sales reps want to sell. Instead, they spend their days updating records and hunting for information. Here’s where the week actually goes, and the numbers back this up. The average sales rep spends only about 40% of their time selling. The rest goes to other work, such as entering data by hand, prospecting, planning, and searching for information. As a result, reps lose about two hours every week to manual data entry alone.
Tool sprawl is part of the problem. Reps use an average of eight tools to close a deal, and 42% say they’re overwhelmed by this. Only 34% of sales teams work on a single, unified platform. Everyone else toggles between a core system and a scatter of standalone apps. When the tools are scattered, so is the data. Before one customer conversation, a rep pieces the story together from half a dozen places. These include recent emails, open opportunities, past cases, meeting notes, and a spreadsheet that someone forgot to sync. It’s slow, and it pulls reps away from customers.
As the admin, you have the tools to solve this problem.
The AI Answer Comes with a Catch
AI is proving useful in sales, especially when teams understand its benefits and quirks and apply it with a clear plan. The demand is real. 87% of sales organizations now use some form of AI, with growing interest in assistants that can research accounts, draft emails, summarize deals, and surface strategic insights. But adoption comes with a catch—trust.
Many AI initiatives stall when organizations start asking harder questions about security and governance. In fact, 51% of sales professionals say data security concerns have halted their AI initiatives. Among business leaders, the picture is even starker. 77% cite trust, data, or ethics concerns as potential barriers to AI deployment. Only 10% say they fully trust AI to make decisions.
Reps want AI that knows their Salesforce data. But the moment you connect a powerful AI tool to your CRM, you have to answer for what it can access and do. Who can access what? Does the AI respect the permissions you’ve spent years building? Is your governance still intact? Give reps a smart assistant without the right guardrails, and you’ve traded a productivity problem for a security one.
Salesforce in Claude Gives You Both
Salesforce in Claude, a packaged integration from Salesforce and Anthropic, brings your Salesforce data and workflows into Claude. Instead of switching between tools, reps can work with Salesforce data directly in Claude using prebuilt skills and prompts that draw on live CRM data.
For admins, the important part is that the existing Salesforce security model stays in place. Salesforce in Claude respects the permissions a user already has, so reps only access the Salesforce data they’re authorized to access. Your sharing rules and permission sets continue to apply.
In other words, your Salesforce permissions work in Claude, and you don’t have to create a separate set of permissions for Claude. You configure the connection, and Salesforce data and its existing governance come along with it. That gives reps a way to work with AI without asking you to rethink how access to your Salesforce data is managed. This is Salesforce in Claude.
Get the Names Straight
Three terms are easy to confuse, and knowing the difference is an important part of getting this right.
Term | What it means |
|---|---|
AIforce | The underlying architecture layer that exposes Salesforce capabilities headlessly to external AI tools. |
Claudeforce | The Salesforce and Anthropic partnership that brings trusted data, workflows, and governance from Salesforce into Claude. |
Salesforce in Claude | A packaged product experience—delivered through the Claudeforce partnership—which allows Claude users to interact with Salesforce in Claude. It’s shorthand for the whole experience of bringing your Salesforce to Claude. |
AIforce is the plumbing underneath. Salesforce in Claude is the product you configure, it’s the experience reps get when the two work as one. Claudeforce is the Salesforce and Anthropic partnership.
Why This Makes Your Reps Powerful
When a rep works in Claude with Salesforce connected, three pieces work together—skills, model context protocol (MCP), and your Salesforce permissions.
Skills are the prebuilt actions Claude can take in Salesforce. A rep can ask Claude to pull up an account, summarize an opportunity’s history, draft a follow-up email using deal information, or research a prospect. A skill handles the request. Salesforce in Claude includes a set of skills designed for common sales tasks. Reps get ready-made actions and don’t have to structure every prompt themselves.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is the standard that connects Claude to your Salesforce org. When a skill needs information from Salesforce, MCP carries the request to Salesforce and brings the response back to Claude.
Your Salesforce permissions determine what the rep can access. When a skill makes a request through MCP, Salesforce checks the permissions of the user making the request. If a rep can’t access an account in Salesforce, they can’t access it through Claude either. The integration works within your existing sharing model.
Put the three together, and the flow is straightforward. Reps ask a question in plain language. Skills turn that request into an action. The MCP carries the request to Salesforce, and Salesforce checks the rep’s permissions before returning the data. Claude then uses that information to respond, based only on the CRM data the rep is already authorized to access.
