A platform integration architect has the required knowledge and skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate functional and non-functional requirements into integration interfaces and implementations.

MuleSoft introduced many feature enhancements over the past year. Let’s take a look at some of the more significant ones for those who hold the MuleSoft Platform Integration Architect certification.

Design, Build, and Manage AI Agents in Anypoint Platform

MuleSoft AI Chain Project Description

MuleSoft developers and architects don’t need to leave MuleSoft to innovate with AI. The MuleSoft AI Chain Project helps MuleSoft developers and architects apply their existing skills in Anypoint Platform to build AI integrations in a simplified approach that works seamlessly with Anypoint Platform. MuleSoft AI Chain is based on the LangChain4j open-source framework. While LangChain4j helps create innovative AI application architectures, it requires a more code-heavy approach to development. By building directly within MuleSoft, developers can unlock their existing MuleSoft APIs for any agent or copilot created using MuleSoft AI Chain.

MuleSoft AI Chain provides a unified experience for integrating multiple AI tools and services and simplifies the orchestration of large language models (LLMs), APIs, and agents. It offers a suite of connectors for MuleSoft users to build integrations with specific AI platforms and services. The operations provided by the connector are categorized into: agent, chat, embeddings, image generation, RAG, sentiment, and tools. Understanding these operations will help MuleSoft platform integration architects decide how to best use the connector in their solutions.

MuleSoft AI Chain Connector Capabilities

The MuleSoft AI Chain Connector allows you to:

  • Integrate and utilize LLMs for tasks such as natural language processing, text generation, and text classification.
  • Generate embeddings to handle tasks like text similarity, document search, and clustering.
  • Create simple, file-based vector stores directly within the connector, ideal for local use or Proof of Concept (POC) designs.
  • Access an array of AI-driven features, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), dynamic tool integration (Function Calling), and image model support for tasks like recognition and manipulation.

The connector is designed for high efficiency and performance in enterprise-grade MuleSoft applications to optimize AI operations. Tight integration with the Anypoint Platform Ecosystem offers additional capabilities. For example:

  • Manage the entire lifecycle of AI agents, from design to deployment, using the Anypoint Platform.
  • Use configuration files to customize and adjust settings and parameters without modifying underlying code.
  • Design agents for workflow integrations to perform specific tasks or functions within a larger system.
  • Build AI applications with minimal code using Anypoint Studio and Anypoint Code Builder.
  • Ensure reliability with unit-testing using MUnit (the native testing framework for Mule) in Anypoint Studio.
  • Track and monitor your AI agents with Anypoint Monitoring and visualization tools.
  • Access and manage many AI tools directly through Anypoint Exchange.

Analyze Usage-Based Pricing on Anypoint Platform

MuleSoft users can now choose a usage-based pricing model for Anypoint Platform, introduced in 2024. The new pricing model is designed to scale with your integration needs and aligns with the value derived from deploying MuleSoft products. This is in contrast to a pricing model based on subscription, which allocates resources in advance, based on peak usage and tied to infrastructure.

Usage-Based Pricing: Comparison to Core

MuleSoft core/vCore licensing is not changing for existing customers. Also, Runtime Farbic users will continue to have a choice of using CPU Limit metric or Node Capacity metric for contract governance month-over-month. The two metrics (CPU Limit and Node Capacity) are available in the existing usage dashboard on Anypoint Platform. This dashboard enhancement allows usage reporting and contract governance for customers still on the core-based model while enabling an easier transition to a usage-based pricing model.

In usage-based pricing, calculations are based on either the number of integration flows triggered by an event source or messages across those flows. This approach allows MuleSoft users to optimize their investment and assess its impact across their IT organization. For proper analysis, usage data needs to be readily available within Anypoint Platform, and can be found in the daily or monthly usage report.

Anypoint Usage Reports

Usage reports provide comprehensive monthly and daily summaries to enable insights into your resource use across Anypoint Platform products. By correlating your usage with billing cycles, you can analyze the factors influencing your costs, proactively manage your budget, and optimize your resource allocation. When you use a metered Anypoint Platform product, MuleSoft measures your usage and aggregates the records on a daily and monthly basis.

MuleSoft users on core-based pricing, such as those with hybrid deployment on Runtime Fabric (RTF), will still want to monitor various usage reporting and contract governance scenarios. MuleSoft has introduced a new usage dashboard for the Runtime Fabric product.

New Usage Dashboard for Runtime Fabric

The Anypoint usage dashboard for Runtime Fabric allows users to track, monitor, and govern core usage in hybrid environments. This dashboard enhancement allows usage reporting and contract governance for customers on the core-based model, while enabling an easier transition to usage-based pricing.

The Runtime Fabric Usage Dashboard allows detailed analysis and insights for users.

  • It offers core-based tracking with metrics for Runtime Fabric instances and application deployments.
  • It includes drill-down capabilities across various dimensions such as DateTime, Business Units, and Environments. This allows for precise capacity planning, license compliance measurement, and reduced overhead for chargebacks.
  • Usage metrics can be exported for further analysis, including AI-driven predictive analysis. By understanding and predicting usage patterns, businesses can optimize operations, allocate resources, and prepare for seasonal variations in workload.

The new usage-based pricing model does not impact RTF functionality or how it is deployed. Users will still manage their infrastructure costs with the RTF-supported cloud provider of their choice.

For users transitioning to usage-based pricing, the new dashboard allows side-by-side comparisons. You can visualize core and flow consumption by each application with drill-down by environment ID and business unit. This allows you to make efficient changes to applications and, if interested, transition to usage-based pricing iteratively.

MuleSoft on Hyperforce

MuleSoft is now available on Hyperforce, and users can deploy to two new Hyperforce regions: Canada and Japan. Hyperforce is the next-generation Salesforce infrastructure architecture, built for the public cloud. Hyperforce infrastructure is composed of code rather than hardware so that the Salesforce Platform and applications can be delivered rapidly and reliably to locations worldwide.

Advantages of Hyperforce

MuleSoft users can benefit from the advantages of a public cloud infrastructure, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), while relying on Hyperforce security features and controls. Salesforce designed the Hyperforce infrastructure architecture to incorporate enhanced standards for compliance, security, agility, and scalability and to support privacy.

Hyperforce offers the global reach of public cloud infrastructure to select global regions where your Salesforce applications run. Accelerate your global compliance to align with regulatory standards across different geographic locations.

MuleSoft Architecture on Hyperforce

Deploying MuleSoft on Hyperforce co-locates the control plane, which manages the integration processes and the runtime plane, where the actual integration processes run, within the same region. This architecture ensures that data residency requirements are met and offers improved performance and reduced latencies.

Hyperforce provides MuleSoft users with the folllowing enhanced security features and controls:

  • Enforced image signature verifications
  • More intricate and widespread encryption mechanisms
  • A Hardware Security Module (HSM) vault for secure management of secrets, encryption keys, and certificates

Hyperforce follows least-privileged control, zero-trust principles, and encrypts data both at rest and in transit. Before deploying Mule apps to Hyperforce, your MuleSoft account must have access to a Hyperforce instance. Contact your MuleSoft account representative to provision a MuleSoft license to a Hyperforce instance.

Hyperforce Configuration in Anypoint Studio

Deliver Mule apps rapidly and reliably to locations worldwide with more choice and control over data residency.

You can deploy to these Hyperforce-supported regions:
