Discover How Lifecycle Center Governance Makes AI Development Safe to Scale

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you'll be able to:

  • Describe what Lifecycle Center Governance is and the business problem it solves.
  • Identify the key capabilities of the Lifecycle Center Governance layer and their benefits.
  • Explain how Lifecycle Center Governance supports safe, scalable AI adoption on Salesforce.

The Stakes of Moving Fast with AI

When organizations work with AI tools at scale, there are more moving parts than any team can manually track and manage. So how can organizations keep every action safe, consistent, and within policy across every project and environment simultaneously? Lifecycle Center Governance is built to handle this challenge.

Meet Lifecycle Center Governance

Salesforce Lifecycle Center Governance (formerly Next-Generation DevOps Center) brings change and release management, governance, analytics, and agentic development together in one place. Lifecycle Center Governance is the Salesforce centralized policy enforcement layer for agentic development. It defines what coding agents and developers are allowed to do—and what they cannot–across your org. Through policies, rules, and enforcement controls, Lifecycle Center Governance gives your organization the control it needs to scale AI safely.

Think of it as a trust contract between your organization and every coding agent it runs. Agents that operate through Agentforce Vibes all work within the boundaries that Governance defines. Once an admin configures those boundaries, they are enforced automatically at the point of action and visible to every member of your team.

Governance is structured in two levels.

  • Policies group related standards into eight categories: Security, Quality, Performance, Architecture, Testing, Operational, Compliance, and Governance.
  • Each policy is made up of rules: Precise, enforceable standards that target a specific risk.

All policies and rules are enabled by default when you turn on Lifecycle Center Governance, to give you full coverage from day one. You can turn individual rules on or off to tailor enforcement to your org's priorities.

With Lifecycle Center Governance, your organization gets the speed and productivity of AI tools without absorbing the security and compliance risks of unchecked autonomy. Governance doesn’t slow coding agents down. It makes their work trustworthy.

Enable Governance from the Manage Features tab in the Lifecycle Center home page. All predefined policies are enabled by default and apply to your coding agents.

Lifecycle Center Governance in Action

Let’s say your team uses Agentforce Vibes to help your developers write and review Apex code, run tests, and manage work items across multiple projects simultaneously. When your admin turns on Governance from the Lifecycle Center home page, security, quality, and operational policies go live across Agentforce Vibes immediately—all policies are on by default.

When Agentforce Vibes generates Apex code that would bypass field-level security, the Security policy triggers and the action is prevented. The developer sees exactly which rule flagged it and the recommended compliant alternative. They see all this inline, without leaving their workflow. And when Agentforce Vibes attempts to push a change directly to production, the Operational policy stops it. The change flows through the pipeline instead.

One configuration. Enforced everywhere. Visible to everyone.

Set the Rules. Let Governance Do the Rest.

Policy Controls

Policy controls are the rules that govern coding agent behavior from the moment an agent takes action. Lifecycle Center Governance includes a catalog of predefined policies organized into the eight categories you learned about earlier: Security, Quality, Performance, Architecture, Testing, Operational, Compliance, and Governance. Each targets a different dimension of risk in AI-assisted development.

Within each policy, rules define the specific standard being enforced. Each rule is precise: it identifies one risk, one violation pattern, and one recommended alternative. When a rule is triggered, Governance prevents the action and returns a structured response to the developer that includes the rule name, an explanation of the violation, and what to do instead. There’s no ambiguity and no silent failures.

As we mentioned, all policies and rules are on by default. You can turn individual rules on or off to match your org's current priorities, and rule changes take effect across your entire org immediately.

Governance That Teams Trust

The best governance is governance that developers understand. Lifecycle Center Governance is built around one principle: no silent enforcement. Every active policy is visible to every developer. When a coding agent action is prevented, the developer sees exactly which rule triggered it and why. There’s no mystery, no frustration, and no lost time.

Lifecycle Center Governance answers the most important question organizations on Salesforce face today: How do you move fast with AI without creating risks you can't manage? The answer is a trust layer that reduces the cost of security incidents, meets compliance requirements automatically, and gives every member of your team the confidence to work alongside coding agents safely.

Lifecycle Center Governance doesn’t just protect your org; it unlocks the full potential of agentic development.
