Hey everyone,

I'm prepping for the Agentforce Specialist certification and I'm stuck on one of the trickier parts, understanding when to use standard actions versus custom actions built with Flow, and how Agentforce decides which action to trigger based on utterances.

I get the basic theory, but the exam questions seem to go deeper into scenario-based decisions, like what happens when multiple topics overlap or when an action fails mid-conversation. The grounding and instructions part for topics also trips me up a bit, especially knowing how specific to make instructions without over-restricting the agent.

For studying, I've been going through the official exam guide (https://trailhead.salesforce.com/credentials/agentforcespecialist), the Trailhead trail for Agentforce Fundamentals (https://trailhead.salesforce.com/content/learn/trails/get-started-with-agentforce), and the Salesforce Help docs on Topics and Actions in Agent Builder (https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.agentforce_agent_builder.htm), along with the module on building custom actions with Flow (https://trailhead.salesforce.com/content/learn/modules/agentforce-actions

). I also took a practice exam to get a sense of the format and timing before sitting for the real thing.

If anyone has already taken this exam, could you share:

  1. How deep do they go into Flow-based custom actions? Like actual flow-building logic, or just conceptual understanding?
  2. Any tips on how topics and instructions are tested? Is it more about writing them or interpreting given examples?

    1. The exam focuses primarily on a conceptual and scenario-based understanding of Flow-based custom actions rather than testing deep, step-by-step flow-building logic.

    2. Topics and instructions are evaluated through situational scenarios where you must interpret given examples and choose the best configuration approach. Your ability to strike the right balance in your agent's instructions is tested, such as making them specific enough to prevent hallucinations and keep the agent on task, while avoiding too much restriction that might block valid user requests or overlap incorrectly with other topics.
