Hello, Tableau community!

I have a good number of reports created using data stored in Progress OpenEdge. Tableau Prep doesn't have a connector to Progress Open Edge and Tableau Desktop isn't able to connect it to it live.

Previously, I had a machine on prem and I would remote desktop in, so I was able to use Bridge to schedule refreshes.

Now I am working remote and only using VPN. I've noticed that I have to be logged into VPN to have the data refreshed using Tableau bridge. My VPN will kick off after X amount of minutes of inactivity.

What are the options for scheduling refreshes for my data?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Charlie

Hi, as you said, you have two options:

    a. To have a machine, inside your company network that does not need VPN.

    b. To have your VPN active.

All the approaches will require connection to Progress Open Edge. Maybe you can ask for a timeout exception for the VPN.

As a final option, you may create a small datasource (a table with 1 row), maybe with several hourly refresh extracts tasks (one starting at 0:00, another at 0:05, another at 0:10, etc). So, the VPN is forced to query every 5 minutes or less the database, and thus you don't get kicked off.

If this post resolves the question, would you be so kind to "Select as Best"?. This will help other users find the same answer/resolution and help community keep track of answered questions. Thank you.
