I use a bunch of URL Hacks to guide staff in creating well-formed Opportunity records. The hacks fill in fields like record type, stage, and some custom fields.
I read that Lightning Experience does not support URL hacks. I also read that, for the last couple of years, Publisher Actions can accomplish the same functionality as URL hacks. But I have never tried using this feature. Checking it out, it seems quite Chatter-centric (you have to Show the Feed to get to the new record form), and my orgs are not chatter users.
I am wondering if we know yet whether the future for this sort of "guided prefill" for record creation is going to move to Publisher Actions, to some other way of getting it done, or will URL hacks be a reasonable choice for a while yet?
@Nonprofit Success Pack@* Lightning Now! *In Lightning Experience, Actions are much, much better integrated with the interface than they are now. In fact, your Actions appear in the exact same spot in the exact same way on the detail record as other supported buttons do, whether your users are Chattering (now 'Collaborate') or not. URL Hacks were never officially supported or encouraged.
While I know there are still some shortcomings in how Actions pre-fill information compared to what you can do with a URL Hack today, if you're talking future then I think you should be going in the direction of the Action for sure. Things like Process Builder/Flow can now also help in making sure that record has what it needs.
