I'm setting up a group to use NPSP 3 and am struggling with the Payments concept. I'm used to using opporunities for contributions of one sort or another, though I can see how Payments could be helpful for managing pledges and other recurring contributions. Particularly for groups that use accrual accounting.
My questions are;
1. I see potential for eating up storage using payments for EVERY contribution (this group has 10s of thousands of donations and will probably accumulate them quickly - and I'm starting to see some orgs bump up against their storage limits despite being small and low budget groups). At 2k per record, that could add up quickly. Most contributions for this group are one-off and don't really need payments per se. Does anyone see storage disappearing quickly due to using payments?
2. is it possible/advisable to use payments only for pledge and related donations? That is, can I turn off automatic payments but use them for specific donations that need them?
3. Are there problems with the way rollups work (or other functions) if you use payments only for certain types of contributions?
Thanks. I'm still somewhat new to NPSP so my questions may not be fully formed. Sorry for that in advance.
@Leslie Cox You're welcome, glad it's helpful. Indeed there are MANY pieces to consider, the price of a complex and powerful database!
