I need assistance. I have an employee that is having issues with creating a lead in a trailhead. During the Challenge it takes her to the home page and not the page that mirrors production SF, is this a known issue?

Hi Timothy,   Trailheads are meant to be completed in what's called a Trailhead Playground, which is a demo environment to designed to complete challenges in. If she wanted to complete the challenge in a production or sandbox org, she can select her avatar in the top right then go to Hands-On orgs. Here there is the option to connect to other orgs.
