Trigger process builder using auto populated field

Question

I have a time based workflow on opportunities that updates fields and sends emails 30 days before asset expiry date. I need this same workflow to trigger process builder to create a new opportunity, so I added in a checkbox that the workflow updates. If I update this checkbox manually then the process and flow work fine, however they don't work if the checkbox is updated from the time based workflow.

I've found that this is a known issue, has anyone got any ideas what I can do to work around it please?

I need the new opportunity to be created 30 days before the asset expiry, to trigger the opportunity renewal process.

Hi Sara,   Could you not move the workflow into Process builder and as part of your scheduled actions, have 2 actions   Send the Email alert , Create a New record.

I would use Process Builder instead of workflow, because then nstead of having the time based workflow check a checkbox that then triggers another flow, you can just call that renewal process from the time based actions. You can invoke a process builder or flow from a scheduled (time-based) action in process builder, so have a process/flow that starts the opportunity renewal process that gets invoked 30 days before the asset expires.
