We do not want the information to be accessible accross businesses, unless administrative powers are given, and the fields and other data storage methods will be different.
Can someone please help in letting me know if this is possible and if it is, the best way to go about setting it up.

Would agree with Steve on this and it really depends on the edition you are using.
Territory Management is available in : Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions
