How to get around this error when cloning an opportunity: "An attempt was made to modify the opportunity price book as the opportunity was being cloned. This is not allowed for an opportunity with associated products."?

A user is attempting to clone an opportunity with one product and he gets this error: "An attempt was made to modify the opportunity price book as the opportunity was being cloned. This is not allowed for an opportunity with associated products."

 

What causes this error?  The opportunity has one product, but the pricebook isn't changing, except only by a web service no more often than every 30 minutes (more likely the particular price book for this product gets changed every few days or weeks).

 

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!
