We restrict access to accounts by a combination of things. The account owner, the account team, and a management group of users all have read/write access to accounts. Other than that, no one can see the accounts exist.
We're in the process of posting Excel templates to each account for the account team and managers to collaborate on. Posting to Chatter would be preferable to adding a file for our needs.
What I can't figure out is how to post a file to an account's Chatter feed, giving all the people who can access the account full access to that file (including ability to upload a newer version) without everyone else in the company being able to find that Chatter file. I was shocked when I logged in as a user who couldn't see my test account but was able to access the Chatter file via search. :/
Am I out of luck?

This is my exact question, phrased much more succinctly. Sounds like it can't be done with current functionality, unless anyone knows otherwise!
