Good idea, however, I wanted a text field (about 400 letters) to give the
chance to think and write (picklists are in this context somehow dangerous

Your answer:
If you could represent reasons for loss as a picklist you can also mark the
new field required on the page layout and as a dependent field to the stage
(but only include values matching closed lost) and as soon as you set the
stage to closed lost the new field will turn red indicating that it is now a
required field.
