See my Trailhead Profile

When I need to learn new things, I always have Trailhead in my educational tool belt.
Do you remember when you first heard about Salesforce? How did you get started with Salesforce?
I learned about Salesforce in June 2016 when Selina Suarez, an alumni of my college, came back and hosted a Salesforce Bootcamp. There, with the intention of making us aware of the opportunity that Salesforce provides, we were introduced to the Salesforce Platform and ecosystem. I really vibed with the welcoming tone of the instructors and later realized that was the norm in the Trailblazer Community. Shortly before the bootcamp, I began volunteering as an IT guy at a small nonprofit near my college campus. Empowered by Trailhead, mentorship from Selina, and the 10 free licenses via Salesforce’s 1:1:1 model, I was able to implement donor management in NPSP just a few months after first learning about the platform.
How do you use Trailhead on the job?
Working at a Salesforce Consulting firm, we constantly use Trailhead to skill up on new topics and technologies for our varying clients and projects. When I was first hired, I had to double my badges from 50 to 100. Now, we’re making good use of Trailhead to guide the learning path for our newest hire, a Junior Developer.
How do you inspire the next generation of Trailblazers?
Being part of the PepUp Tech family has afforded me many opportunities to volunteer for their Salesforce Bootcamps and Virtual Academies to introduce underserved and underrepresented people to careers, opportunities, and diversity initiatives in the tech sector.
How will Trailhead be a part of your future?
I see Trailhead as an invaluable part of my learning journey. When I need to learn new things, I always have Trailhead in my educational tool belt.
What message do you have for people new to Salesforce/Trailhead or considering learning Salesforce skills?
Take full advantage of the opportunity to learn and grow on the platform. Success in many things is often primarily determined by your social capital (who you know and what opportunities you're afforded), and Salesforce has lifted that burden by eliminating many of the barriers to entry (to the tech industry). Be sure to make full use of Trailhead (free learning for everyone) and Developer Orgs (free product for everyone) to skill up on the platform.
