Beyond Metadata

In the previous unit, you built the metadata foundation that grounds every agent session. But enterprise data doesn’t live in one org.

Customer records are in your CRM. Transaction history is in your data warehouse. Analytics live in a separate system. When an agent needs to reason across all of that—in real time, with governance applied—metadata alone isn’t enough.

That’s where the second and third pillars of data foundation come in: Data 360 and cross-cloud connectivity.

Data 360: The System of Context

Data 360 is the real-time layer that unifies your enterprise data into a single, trusted source of context for agents. When a tool calls into Salesforce through a programmatic connection, it doesn’t hit a stale snapshot or a siloed table. It connects to an active source of truth that stays current, governed, and reconciled. Data 360 delivers orchestrated business logic on a source of truth that updates in real time.

Data 360 powers headless workflows in the following essential ways.

  • It unifies your enterprise data. Data 360 uses identity resolution and zero-copy federation to bring together structured and unstructured data from across your enterprise without moving it. You configure the connections and mappings, while Data 360 matches and merges records from different systems into one authoritative customer profile.
  • It activates in real time. Data 360 monitors events and fires triggers automatically. You don’t have to wait for batch jobs or manual reports. Data 360 delivers context in under 3 minutes, so agents always work from current data, not yesterday’s snapshot.
  • It grounds AI in governed data. You configure policy-based governance, automated tagging, and dynamic masking. Every call respects these rules, providing robust protection for sensitive business information.
  • It encrypts your data at rest. Shield Platform Encryption extends protection to your Data 360 data at rest. With bring your own key (BYOK), you control the root key that wraps your data encryption keys, which keeps your key material under your management at every stage.

Beyond the core product, Data 360 forms the center of a broader portfolio—including partner-managed data quality and master data management (MDM)—that extends into the cross-cloud Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.

Cross-Cloud MCPs: Connect the Rest of Your Stack

Cross-cloud MCP servers connect external systems to the headless environment so callers get a complete, unified picture without building custom integrations for every source.

Salesforce provides three cross-cloud MCP servers as part of the data foundation.

  • Informatica MCP Server: Connects workflows to Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC). Admins connect an existing IDMC instance, giving callers access to Informatica data quality, deduplication, lineage, governance, and MDM capabilities—without rebuilding those rules inside Salesforce.
  • MuleSoft MCP Server: Connects workflows to your existing integrations and APIs and agents across the tech stack. Agents can pull data from outside systems with no code changes required, so your existing integrations stay in place while becoming accessible to headless workflows.
  • Tableau MCP Server: Connects the AI ecosystem to trusted analytics and governed semantic layers. Agents can reason from Tableau semantic definitions—metrics, calculations, business logic—rather than raw data, giving them a richer, more accurate understanding of your business.

Together, these three MCP servers mean an agent in a headless setup isn’t limited to what’s inside Salesforce. It has access to the clean data, the integrations, and the analytics your enterprise already runs on.

Put the Three Pillars into Action

A workflow receives this request: “Why did this account’s usage drop last month, and are they at risk?”

  1. The process starts with metadata and context grounding through the Headless 360 MCP server—running Discover and Describe calls on the Account and Opportunity objects to identify relevant fields and confirm access permissions.
  2. The workflow then queries Data 360. Zero-copy federation pulls the customer’s unified profile—payment history from the data warehouse, support case volume from the CRM, and contract data from an external system—without moving any data. Identity resolution matches all records to one customer.
  3. Finally, the workflow queries the Tableau MCP Server to fetch the governed usage trend metric—using the exact calculation that the business runs on. If the system detects stale contact data, it calls the Informatica MCP Server to check data quality flags before returning a result.

One request. Three pillars. A complete, governed answer.
