Install the Consumer Goods Cloud Offline Mobile App
Learning Objectives
After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:
- Explain the need for using the Consumer Goods Cloud offline mobile app.
- Install managed packages Consumer Goods Cloud Mobile Sync and Consumer Goods Cloud.
No Internet? No Problem!
The Consumer Goods (CG) Cloud offline mobile app is an intuitive mobile solution that enables field reps to record data offline during retail visits.
In Retail Execution in Consumer Goods Cloud, we met Gustavo De Luca, a sales manager at Alpine Group Nutrition and Beverage. Gustavo manages the sales of Alpine products in Northern Trail Outfitters (NTO) stores in the American West region. We’ve also seen how Chantelle Jackson, a field rep in Gustavo’s team, uses the Consumer Goods Cloud offline mobile app to capture store visit data when visiting stores with poor internet connectivity. The app allows her to capture data even when she’s offline, and the data later gets synced with Consumer Goods Cloud during a background sync.
Now let’s go back in time and understand why Chantelle and the other field reps in Gustavo’s team started using the offline mobile app. The field reps often visit stores that are located in rural areas and basements. During these store visits, they struggle with poor or no internet connection. As a result, it’s a challenge for them to record data from these visits and execute visit tasks.
Gustavo discusses the issue with Fatima Daniels, the admin at Alpine Group, and Fatima has the perfect solution for this problem! She suggests that Gustavo and his team start using the Consumer Goods Cloud offline mobile app: an app with enhanced mobility, real-time visibility, and offline capabilities. Gustavo is excited to learn about the capabilities of the offline mobile app, and requests Fatima to set up the app for his entire team.
In this module, we follow Fatima as she installs and sets up the CG Cloud offline mobile app for Gustavo and his field reps.
Install Managed Packages
In this module, we assume you’re a CG Cloud offline mobile app admin with the proper permissions to install the CG Cloud offline mobile app. If you’re not an admin for the CG Cloud offline mobile app, that’s OK. Read along to learn how your admin would take the steps in a production org. Don't try to follow these steps in your Trailhead Playground. CG Cloud offline mobile app isn't available in the Trailhead Playground.
Prerequisites
Fatima must enable a few things in the Alpine Group org and then install the managed packages Consumer Goods Cloud Mobile Sync and Consumer Goods Cloud. Let’s see what she does.
-
Translation Workbench: Fatima enables Translation Workbench to achieve the following.
- Maintain translated values for metadata and data labels in the org. For more information, see Translate Metadata Labels.
- Specify languages for translation and assign translators for each language. For more information, see Add Translated Languages and Translators.
- Manage translated values for supported languages. For more information, see Supported Languages.
- Enable translators to do translation maintenance through the workbench. For more information, see Override Translations in Second-Generation Managed Packages and Unlocked Packages.
- Export translation files in bulk for mass translation imports. For more information, see Export Metadata Translation Files and Export Data Translation Files.
- Retail Execution: Next, Fatima enables Retail Execution in the org to schedule and assign visits to field reps. For more information, see Enable Retail Execution.
- Apex Approval Process Locks: Moving ahead, Fatima enables record locking and unlocking in process automation settings to add or remove approval process locks by using Apex. For more information, see Enable Adding or Removing Apex Approval Process Locks.
- Apex Settings: Lastly, Fatima configures Apex settings to download non-certified packages. For more information, see Configure Apex Settings.
Installation Steps
With the prerequisites in place, Fatima first installs the managed package Consumer Goods Cloud Mobile Sync, and then Consumer Goods Cloud.
She downloads the packages from the following URLs.
