Change Save behavior on Custom Object

Question

Is it possible to replace the save behavior of a custom object? We have a custom object that is a child to a parent custom object. When we create a new child record and save, we'd like to be redirected to the parent record and not the child detail page

This is possible using setting a SaveURL, but you might have to create a custom button for new child object from the parent's detail page so that you can set the SaveURL in the link.
