Hello Trailbazers!  I could use some help.

Is there a way for me to force the use of a specified record type when creating a new custom object record from a master object record?  For example, let's assume that I've created a custom object called "Product Sample Requests" with three record types (A, B, and C) and standard lookup field (not a master-detail lookup field) to the Opportunity object.  If a user creates a new Product Sample Request record from within an opportunity record, I want to force the use of record type "A" (i.e. bypass the record type selection screen altogether), but when creating a new Product Sample Request independent from an opportunity I want all three to be available.

Is this possible, and if so, how can I accomplish this?

Thanks,

Greg

    HI Greg,

Give access to the 3 record types to the required users.

You can then create a quick action on the parent object. When using the Create a Record Action Type, you'll be asked for the record type. Make sure you choose A.

Now you can add the action to your parent page layout in the "Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions" section.

Go to the related list of the child object while in the page layout set up, click on the wrench icon and remove the New button.

Now you need to train your users to use this new button that's at the top instead of in the related list.
