What Is A Simple Way to Create A Dual Type for the "Contact Record Type"?

Hi, we are a non-profit organization and we are using SF to track our volunteers and recipients. So we have a Volunteer type contact and we have a Recipient type contact. But the issue is we have some people who are both Volunteer and recipient. We don't want to create two records with two types because if we do that, we will have two same accounts as well. And it will be very hard for us to track records for accounts. If we create another type with as dual type, we can transfer a person to the dual type, but we can't transfer him back because the info will lose if we do that. 

 

So what is the best and simplest way to deal with this issue? Thank you very much.

    It seems the Contact Roles is only available for account, opportunity, case or contract. We would like to assign roles in the "Contact" object, so it doesn't work for us. Is there any other way? Thank you for your help.
