opportunity with historical tranding report matrix not working

Question

When I try to create a matrix report for Opportunity with Histroical Trending - the preview shows all the data properly but when I run the report I only see summary data.

Once you hit 2000 rows the reports don't like to fully generate anymore

Wow- completely missed that.   What's the limit of records?  The report has 3500 - doesn't seem lik eit should be too many
