Check Your Marketing Cloud Engagement Status

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Check the status of your Marketing Cloud Engagement instance.
  • Subscribe to Marketing Cloud Engagement email notifications.

Get to Know the Status Site

Remember Warren? Warren is the IT systems specialist in charge of NTO's Marketing Cloud Engagement instance. And his phone just lit up with a text about an issue with NTO’s Marketing Cloud Engagement instance.

Fortunately, Warren can now use the Salesforce Status site to check the health and status of his Marketing Cloud Engagement instance. The Status Site is where Salesforce provides transparency around service availability and performance for Salesforce products.

Warren remembers that Marketing Cloud Engagement returns health data using a Marketing Cloud Engagement ID (MID)  instead of by node ID or org ID like Sales Cloud. He also remembers that Marketing Cloud Engagement tracks health data by database instance, and each database instance runs on a Marketing Cloud Engagement stack. A Marketing Cloud Engagement stack is equivalent to a data center. This means many Marketing Cloud Engagement database instances exist on each Marketing Cloud Engagement Stack.

Before Marketing Cloud Engagement migrated to the Salesforce Status site, you could only see health information at the stack level. This led to a number of support calls from customers asking about the health of their specific Marketing Cloud Engagement database. Now, Warren can check on the health of the NTO Marketing Cloud Engagement instance in just a few steps.

Salesforce Status

The first step is to navigate to the Salesforce Status site. He does this by clicking the Marketing Cloud Engagement link on the Salesforce Trust site.

Here, Warren finds links to individual products such as Marketing Cloud Engagement. He can also see information about ongoing incidents across the Salesforce platform, a list of ongoing maintenance currently being performed, and recently viewed instances.

Marketing Cloud Engagement Status

Warren selects Marketing Cloud Engagement from the list and is taken to the Marketing Cloud Engagement status page.

Here, he can see the health status of all the Marketing Cloud Engagement DBs. The status of each instance is indicated by color.

Status Color

Status

Green

This instance is available and fully functional.

Orange

The instance is experiencing performance degradation.

Red

This instance is experiencing a service disruption.

Blue

The instance is undergoing maintenance.

Warren can also select the Maintenances link to see a filtered list of all the maintenance that is currently being performed on Marketing Cloud Engagement.

Now that Marketing Cloud Engagement has moved to the Salesforce Trust site, Warren can access a more granular view of each database (DB). Warren knows the NTO Marketing Cloud Engagement instance is on DB707, so he types the number into the Quick Find bar.

If he didn’t know his DB, he could locate it by entering his MID into the Search Instance or Domain field on the previous page to see any database instances that NTO owns.

Note

Note:

You can find your MID by clicking the account dropdown in the top right of your Marketing Cloud Engagement application window.

Check Current Status

The NTO DB instance opens on the Current Status By Service view by default. This view allows Warren to track the health of his Marketing Cloud Engagement instance by feature and gives him insight into any issues with the component services of his database.

The current status of the NTO database is green. As with the Product site, the status of his instance is indicated by color.

Status Color

Status

Green

The instance is available and fully functional.

Blue

There is information about the instance that is not related to a performance issue or service disruption.

Purple

The instance is currently in maintenance. You will see a message regarding your ability to access the instance during maintenance.

Yellow

The instance is still accessible; however, there is particular functionality that may be unavailable, or the service may be running with significant latency.

Red

The instance is inaccessible to customers.

Review Historical Data

Everything looks good, so Warren checks the History tab to see if his instance has experienced any issues in the past few days. The History tab displays the health of different parts of his Marketing Cloud Engagement instance, such as REST API and SOAP API.  He can also select the number of days he wants to review.

Analyze Maintenance Logs

The last tab is Maintenances. Warren can see all the recent maintenance sessions for his instance in the Maintenances window. He can see the type of maintenance that was performed and also the services that were performed during the maintenance session. Warren notices that maintenance was performed on his database earlier that day, which he assumes is why the NTO database now appears to be working.

Subscribe to Email

As the Salesforce admin, Warren subscribes to email notifications about any issues or maintenance for his Salesforce instance, so he wonders if he's able to do the same with his Marketing Cloud Engagement instance. The answer is: absolutely!

To subscribe to notifications for an instance:

  1. Click Subscribe.
  2. Enter the email address where you want to be notified.
  3. Click the confirmation link sent to your email.

Warren signs up for email notifications and will now be notified anytime the status of the NTO Marketing Cloud Engagement database changes.

Use APIs

Warren knows he can also use an application programming interface (API) call to bring his Status data into another site or page. The API uses a Swagger REST reference page.

Now that Warren reviewed the Salesforce Trust and Salesforce Status sites, he's ready to make sure NTO’s Marketing Cloud Engagement instance is running as smoothly as his Salesforce instance.
