Meet Jurn, Salesforce Saturday and Community Group Leader in Den Haag, NL. Salesforce World Tour Amsterdam Golden Hoodie Recipient, March 2019.
“Trailhead got me hooked, the Trailblazer Community was there for support, and the rest is history.“
How did you get started with Salesforce?
Since I had difficulty getting hired with a master's degree in philosophy, I mainly held entry-level customer service roles, which wasn't satisfying for me at all. Then, in 2017, my life took a dramatic turn—I battled an illness and then my father passed away. These events caused me to reevaluate my life. I wanted a rewarding job where I could accomplish something that I could be proud of, so I decided to train myself to transition to IT. After taking some programming courses, I googled “best jobs of 2017” and Salesforce popped up. Trailhead got me hooked, the Trailblazer Community was there for support, and the rest is history.
How do you use Trailhead to skill up?
Trailhead has been a life-changer for me. Being able to learn about the platform for free, on my own time and in the comfort of my home was just what I needed to skill up and begin learning about Salesforce. Now, I continue to use Trailhead to support my ongoing learning needs.
What message do you have for people new to Salesforce?
The opportunities with Salesforce are endless and the demand for professionals with Salesforce skills is incredible. You can quickly launch your career and develop yourself in many directions. Trailhead makes it easy to skill up, and you're surrounded by a wonderful Trailblazer Community that is always ready to support you. Honestly, there's no comparison.
How do you use your skills to give back to your community?
In addition to my full-time work with a large nonprofit, I use the Power of Us and NPSP to help other nonprofits professionalize their systems and processes. I also host Salesforce Saturdays, which helps people jumpstart their careers in Salesforce and I became a community group leader for The Hague Admin User Group.
What does the Trailblazer Community mean to you?
A lot! There are genuinely great folks in the Trailblazer Community, and we've supported each other since day one.
What does being a Trailblazer mean to you?
To me, it means being your unique and pure self, with an intrinsic motivation to do something good in the world. I wholeheartedly believe that people who possess these traits are the ones who really make a difference and carve out new paths.
What is your dream job? How will you get there? Are you already there?
My dream job is any role where I make positive contributions in the world. I promised myself that I'd always work for nonprofits, as they exist to serve the needs of others. While I currently work for a nonprofit, I have some ways to go before saying I've “arrived.” There is still so much to learn and so much more impact I'd like to make.
