Hello @William Essel Ghanney
- Account Object Permission in 'Account Access ' includes Read, Create, Edit, Delete, View All Records, and Modify All Records.
- Sales User Muted Permissions- confirm it mutes Delete, view All Records, a nd Modify All Records correctly.
- Field Permissions- Make sure Annual Revenue and Customer Priority fields are muted for Edit access.
- Assignment-Verify the Sales User permission set group is assigned to the right user.
- Organization-wide-Defaults-check that Account and Contact are Visible but not editable, and Opportunity is visible only to record owners and role hierarchy users.
If everything seems correct, try refreshing the page and rechecking the permissions.

ALCON,
I have been trying to complete the task and am receiving the error that the muted permissions are not under the permission set. MY only issue is that the API is not available and, every time I try to create a new one, the program informs me that the name already exists. I have deleted entire sets and accesses but the API will not delete. How should I proceed?

Sep 16, 4:13 PM Hi @M K
This issue may occur when Salesforce retains the API name of a previously deleted Muting Permission Set.
You can try the following steps:
- Go to Setup → Permission Set Groups and check whether the Muting Permission Set is still associated with the Permission Set Group.
- Navigate to Setup → Muting Permission Sets and verify whether the existing API name is already present.
- Try creating the Muting Permission Set with a unique API name that has not been used before.
- If the Trailhead challenge still fails, refresh your Trailhead Playground and verify that you are working in the correct org.
Also, check the exact error message and confirm whether the issue occurs while creating the Muting Permission Set or assigning it to a Permission Set Group.
Hope this helps! 😊
Sep 12, 4:06 PM Hi Pyatta, the error message in the screenshot indicates that a muting permission set with the same Label/API Name already exists.
Please go to Setup → Permission Set Groups → Sales User → Muting Permission Sets and check whether Sales User Muted already exists. If it does, you don't need to create it again—continue with the existing muting permission set and follow the remaining steps in the challenge.
If you don't see it there, please provide the name/link of the Trailhead challenge you're working on so we can check the expected configuration.
I am doing challenge on User Management > Control What Your Users Can Access & got the error "We can't find that the Sales User permission set group mutes edit access for the annual revenue and customer priority fields". But after checking the Edit access boxes for both the fields and after saving them, the Read access is also getting enabled due to which am stuck here.

Jul 14, 2:01 AM Hi ,
https://trailhead.salesforce.com/trailblazer-community/feed/0D54V00007clu0sSAAStuck with this problem for half an hour. Here is the solution for those who still have an issue, and please refer to the screenshot.
1. "Check" the Edit Access Muted
2. Then, "Uncheck" Read Access Muted
I need resolving this issue in a challenge:
Challenge not yet complete in Resilient Wolf Playground
We can’t find the correct object permissions for account in the ‘Account Access’ permission set.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

sapete come posso risolvere?

May 30, 2:37 PM Hello @davide fornelli, have you waited for the updates to finish ?
Maybe try to switch your playground (avatar icon > settings > language and time zone) and your trainhead unit page (scroll down to the very bottom of the page to fond the language selector) in english, and take the challenge again / check your settings before trying validating again (as described below in english).
- Create a permission set:
- Label: Account Access
- API Name: Account_Access
- Add a description (We won’t check for this.)
- License: -None-
- Enable Account Object Permissions: Read, Create, Edit, Delete, View All Records, and Modify All Records
- Enable Account Field Permissions: Read Access and Edit Access for all fields
- Create a permission set group and assign it to the user you created:
- Label: Sales User
- API Name: Sales_User
- Include the Account Access permission set that you created
- Create a muting permission set in the permission set group and name it Sales User Muted (API Name: Sales_User_Muted)
- Mute Account Object Permissions: Delete, View All Records, and Modify All Records
- Mute Account Field Permissions: Edit Access for the Annual Revenue and Customer Priority fields
- Assign the permission set group to the user you created in the previous unit
- Configure organization-wide defaults:
- Account and Contract: Visible but not editable for all users.
- Opportunity: Visible only to record owners and users higher in the role hierarchy.
- Note: Wait for the updates to finish processing before checking this challenge.

Hello Trailhead Support Team,
I am currently working on the Control Access to Fields module, but I am unable to complete the hands-on challenge due to an issue with the Job Application object.
In my Trailhead Playground, the fields Candidate and Position do not allow me to configure or uncheck the Edit access in the Permission Set, and the Muting Permission Set also shows these fields as locked (greyed out). Because of this, the validation always fails with the message that the Manage_Job_Applications permission set does not properly grant read/edit for all fields except Candidate and Position.
I have already:
- Created multiple new Playgrounds (in English and Portuguese).
- Reinstalled the package each time.
- Tried with different browsers (Chrome, Edge) and languages (English, Portuguese).
- Recreated the Permission Set, Permission Set Group, and Muting multiple times.
The result is always the same: Candidate and Position fields remain locked for Edit access, and the module cannot be validated.
Could you please review this issue and either provide a working package ID or unlock the badge manually so I can continue my learning path?
Thank you for your support.
Luciano

#Trailhead Challenges
Mar 28, 6:29 PM Hi @Manasa Ganimisetty This typically happens when the muting permission set is either created as a standard permission set or not created within the permission set group.
Plz follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
Step 1: Check Existing Permission Set
- Go to Setup → Permission Sets
- Search for “Sales User Muted”
- If it already exists, do not recreate it
Step 2: Open Permission Set Group
- Navigate to Setup → Permission Set Groups
- Open the “Sales User” permission set group.
Step 3: Create Muting Permission Set (Correct Way)
- Inside the group, click on “Muting Permission Sets”
- Click 'New'.
- Enter the Label as “Sales User Muted”
- Save the record
Plz Note: The muting permission set must be created from within the group to be recognised correctly.
Step 4: Recalculate the Permission Set Group
- After creating the muting permission set, click on “Recalculate”
This step is required for the changes to take effect and for the challenge to recognize it.
Step 5: Handle Incorrectly Created Permission Set (If Applicable)
- If a standard permission set was created earlier with the same name, you can either delete it or ignore it and proceed with the correct creation inside the group
Please try the above steps......
I am in the process of completing the User Management: Control What Your Users Can Access module.
I have completed all the steps. However, when I go to step that requires me to:
- Create a muting permission set in the permission set group and name it Sales User Muted (API Name: Sales_User_Muted), I get the following message when trying to create the required muting permission set: "The API name you entered is already in use. Enter a unique API name."
I didn't create and can't find the API that is supposedly already exists. Also, the challenge won't work with a different name and API name. I've tried to create new playgrounds and get other error messages.
I've spent 5 hours trying to fix the issue with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Feb 5, 2024, 9:18 PM Hi @Daniel Anderson ,
Can you please provide the screenshot of the error message ?

Task Name Mute Permissions in Permission Set Groups
The task
- From Setup, in Quick Find type Permission Set Groups and then select Permission Set Groups.
- Click Sales Processing—the permission set group you created in Unit 2.
- Under Permission Sets click Muting Permission Set in Group.
- Click New.
- For label use Contracts Permissions Muted.
- For API Name, use Contracts_Permissions_Muted.
- Save the muting permission set.
Select permissions to mute.
- Click the name of your muting permission set.
- In the Find Settings box, enter Contracts, and then select Contracts.
- Click Edit.
- Mute the View All Records and Modify All Records object permissions.
- Save your changes.
- In the Find Settings box, enter Contracts, and then select Activate Contracts. (Im stuck here as an error appears "insufficient privileges".
- Click Edit.
- Under Sales, mute the Activate Contracts and Delete Activated Contracts permissions.
- Save your changes.
Now when you add the permissions for Alyssa’s group to the Sales Contracts permission set, they’ll be muted in the Sales Processing permission set group. Let’s add Alyssa’s permissions to the Sales Contracts permission set. Enable these permissions in the Sales Contracts permission set:
- Activate Contracts app (user) permission
- Delete Activated Contracts app (user) permission
- View All Records and Modify All Records object permissions for contracts
When you’re ready to create the Contracts Processing permission set group for Alyssa, you can add the Sales Contracts permission set to it. Members will receive all enabled permissions, including Activate Contracts, Delete Activated Contracts, and View All Records and Modify All Records for the Contracts object. Voila!
Muting and Permission Dependencies
When you mute permissions in muting permission sets, dependent permissions are also affected. For example, suppose that you grant users Create, Read, Edit, Delete, View All Records, and Modify All Records permissions for an object. Now, if you mute the Read permission, Create, Edit, Delete, View All Records, and Modify All Records are also muted because users can’t perform those tasks without the ability to read the data.
That example is fairly straightforward, but dependencies can get tricky. When you mute permissions, pay attention to the permission change confirmation message when you save your changes. For example, if you had muted Activate Orders, then Edit Activated Orders would have been muted as well.
As you work with your permission set groups, keep permission dependencies in mind to avoid removing permissions from users who need them. For more information on permission set group muting dependencies, see Salesforce Help.
Muting in Installed Packages
We have one more benefit of muting permission sets to share. If you subscribe to a managed package, you can mute permissions in permission set groups for features that you’re not ready to adopt yet.
For example, let’s say you create a permission set group and then add a managed permission set, installed from a managed package, to it. You receive an automatic update from the independent software vendor (ISV) for the package, but you aren’t ready to enable a new field that’s now available in the managed permission set. Is this a problem? No. You can receive the update and the benefits it offers but mute this field permission until you’re ready to adopt it for your org.
Nice job! You now know about muting permission sets and have a complete picture of permission set groups. You learned all the benefits of using permission set groups and how to design your permissions model to make use of their flexibility and reusability.
