So I have all my objects set up for this.. Energy Audits, Accounts already was set up, etc.... and following the instruction set which is:
"Create a Compact Layout
When you create a custom object, it’s automatically assigned to a system default compact layout, which has only one field on it: the object name. Maria wants to call attention to the most important fields on the object when her users view the audit records. Let’s make that happen by creating a custom compact layout for the Energy Audit custom object.
- First, find and open the compact layouts node in Setup for Energy Audit.
- From Setup, click Object Manager.
- Click Energy Audit to open the object and then click Compact Layouts.
- You can see that the System Default compact layout is assigned as the primary compact layout right now. We’re going to change that.
- Click New.
- Give the compact layout a label: Energy Audit Compact LayoutCopy.
- Add these fields to the compact layout, in this order:
- Energy Audit Name
- Account
- Annual Energy Usage (kWh)
- Average Annual Electric Cost
- Type of Installation
- Click Save. Now let’s set the compact layout that you created as the primary compact layout for the object. This step makes the compact layout the new default for the Energy Audit custom object.
- Click Compact Layout Assignment and then Edit Assignment.
- Select Energy Audit Compact Layout and click Save.
Great job! Now, when users view an Energy Audit record, they see the most important information where they need it most—at the top of the record page."
So i do that, and have reconfirmed the Object Energy Audits has a company layout saved, as noted above, with the specified fields that are above, save, then assign it so it's the default... .but when i open the record, Burlington Evaluation, for example, and the area where the compact layout is supposed to show (just under the record name) does NOT. And then i get confused, because when i look at PAGE layout, i see that there is a "highlight bar" section that is empty... GPT says i shouldn't have to mess with that and is talking about lightning record pages settings, or something, but nothing like that is mentioned in the above instructions, yet i cannot seem to get the compact layout to show... I do NOT know what i'm doing wrong... Am i? or is this instruction said subpar and missing important details?
The example image shown in the exercise, despite following the instructions verbatim, does not match what i'm seeing real-time. And there was a note about "if the compact layout doesn't show right away, refresh, give it a couple of minutes", but I'm well past that and still nothing.

PS....IT FINALLY SHOWED UP... LIKE 10 MINUTES LATER???? THOUGH??? IS THAT NORMAL???????? And then, when i saw the changes, i tested by removing some fields, and that seemed to happen ALMOST instantly when i checked the actual app record page....but then i have set to add them back, in and still several minutes later, those re-adds have NOT shown up. Smells of system processing issue with this specific function... Can anyone else help me understand why this is happening and how to work around it if at all possible? First pic is where it landed after so long of my typing up this question then surprisingly seeing it DID finally update, then second picture is where i took them out but also readded, but still not showing the re-add...is adding much slower or something?
So at this point, I'm looking for real users that can shed light on this... do compact layouts ALWAYS Take THAT long? And if so, WHY so? YEah it's like over 10 mins later after last changes again, and ATILL not showing up.. only showing the version where it took out the account and record name...even though I resaved it to readd those back in well over 10 minutes ago
For the record? I have tried to repeat the process on my own customer object item that was properly set up...just tried to add compact layout as well.. moments ago...still not showing. Will check again, but yeah...definitely need some confirmation either way about the time turn around time for these compact layouts...do they ALWAYS take this long? Sometimes NOT update?
Just to update...i came back like 40 mins later, ***and the compact layout changes all are showing up...
*** WHY OH WHY DOES THIS ONE FUNCTION TAKE SO LONG TO UPDATE on the lightning application side?
