Our Tableau server's SSL certificate (from GoDaddy) expired today so we installed a new one. Users who browse to our Tableau site with Chrome or with Edge have no problems and the browsers indicate that the cert is trusted and good until March. However, three of our users are using Tableau Desktop 26.2.2783. One of them tried to use 'activate by logging into a server' and chose our Tableau server, but received the error 'cannot connect to Tableau Server, server's certificate is not trusted'.

I have confirmed that this user has no problems accessing our Tableau site via browser. it's just the app that gets the certificate error.

Thank you for the suggestion. I followed the steps in the link about clearing them manually, but for some reason, the error persisted. In the end what solved the problem was this: the certificate files we were using were IIS files, and came in the form of a .crt file, a PEM file, and an IIS intermediates .p7b file. I installed the CRT file to the user's certificate stores without a problem, but when I attempted to install the p7b file, Windows said it could not verify that the file was actually from GoDaddy (despite my having downloaded the file directly from the site). I had the machine install the file to the certificate store anyway, and afterwards Tableau Desktop was willing to start and activate properly.

Trying to determine if this is a bug or a setting I need to turn off - either way it has been impossible to solve being that my question uses very common terminology:

How can I delete a Parent Container with multiple Child Containers contained within?

When I upgraded to Tableau 2026.1.1, I am unable to Remove a Container containing multiple items from my dashboard.

  • I select the parent container and then the option "Remove from Dashboard" -> Warning: Delete Layout Container -> "Delete Container" -> nothing happens
  • I go into the Layout tab again select the option "Remove from Dashboard" -> Warning: Delete Layout Container -> "Delete Container" -> nothing happensUpgraded to Tableau 2026.1.1, now cannot delete Parent Containers that have multiple Child Containers within

When I revert back to Tableau 2023.3, I am able to Remove a Container containing multiple items again (sorry yes I hadn't updated in a long while)

  • I go into the Layout tab again select the option "Remove from Dashboard" -> Warning: Delete Layout Container -> "Delete Container" -> parent container and all children containers are deletedTableau 2023.3 remove containers.gif

For more information, this is the exact error I am receiving. I am able to open the data (.twbx file) in Tableau Desktop but cannot save/update the version to .hyper. The link is not helpful either as it only brings me to the Tableau Feed. Please help!

Live and extract connection with .tde files have been deprecated. To upgrade .tde files to .hyper, please follow instructions at https://community.tableau.com/s/feed/0D58b0000CQKAUbCQP

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a Tableau dashboard where users select a Mission ID using a filter dropdown.

Some Mission IDs are milestone-based, while others are not.

I have a field [Milestone Rank], and the condition for a milestone-based Mission ID is:

COUNTD([Milestone Rank]) > 0

I have a separate dashboard section containing several milestone-related charts. What I want is:

  •  If the selected Mission ID is milestone-based → show the milestone section.
  •  If the selected Mission ID is not milestone-based → completely hide the milestone section.
  •  When the section is hidden, I also want the empty space to collapse, rather than leaving a blank area.
  •  The Mission ID list comes from the database, so new Mission IDs can be added over time.
  •  Ideally, I want to keep the Mission ID as a filter dropdown, rather than requiring the user to manually change another Show/Hide parameter.

I tried using Dynamic Zone Visibility, but Tableau does not show my Boolean calculated field as an available value for “Control visibility using value.”

I also tried a Boolean parameter for Show/Hide, but then the user has to manually change the parameter every time they select a different Mission ID, which isn't practical.

Is there a way to make Dynamic Zone Visibility respond automatically to the selected Mission ID while keeping the Mission ID as a filter?

If not, what would be the recommended Tableau approach for achieving:

Mission ID filter → detect whether milestone exists → automatically show/hide a dashboard zone → collapse the space when hidden?

Thanks!

When looking at the data source tab of a report I don't own, that has an extract generated from Snowflake (using stored OAUTH credentials in the report owner's account), editing the connection, I see this:Why can't I see that Snowflake credentials are used? The owner of the report sees this:image.png

I spent a while wondering how this report was successfully updating without any credentials. Now that I know, I'll probably just ignore it, but that means I can't diagnose if that's the reason a report is legitimately not updating, without asking the owner (who may not be available) to check for me. That dialog will look the same to me whether there are stored credentials or not. Am I overcomplicating it (cos' I'd get some other extract error if there was, say, a query problem, so this would be the catch-all)?

We all start somewhere, and I think this is a good effort at making an interesting and structured dashboard, with your navigation being good, and your main page having a good number of KPIs, so not overloading the user. My points below are mostly based around deciding what the question is that you're trying to answer with each chart, but I think there are a few things wrong with individual elements, that you need to be careful of (especially Top N and the Order of Operations). Below is my (personal opinion) feedback, which you're welcome to ignore, should you so desire, sorry it's long.

I find trend (line) charts that combine multiple years confusing. Your chart suggests an amazing trajectory of sales, no matter which year(s) you select. It doesn't illustrate that, every January, there is a catastrophic drop in sales (compared to December). In my opinion, your chart doesn't show a trend when you have all years selected, you're comparing "Octobers" (plural) with "Septembers" (and the other months), which is a discrete date comparison and I'd plot as a bar chart. It's only a trend when one year is selected, because then all the months are in sequence, but because you're only showing your users Jan to Dec, you're misleading them into believing that sales just keep going up and up. Your chart omits this line at the end of every year, which feels kind of important:

We all start somewhere, and I think this is a good effort at making an interesting and structured dashboard, with your navigation being good, and your main page having a good number of KPIs, so not ovFor business dashboards, I would stick to one method of telling the user the values on the chart. On some of your bar charts, you have a y-axis, you label every bar, and you colour the bars according to their height. While colour is a personal/customer preference (I usually keep them grey, and pick out key points with colour), your y-axis, at least, is redundant, because I'm not going to read the exact(ish) value of 5.9m, and then look across to the y-axis to check it also says about 5.9m. Ask yourself what you can remove from any chart and it not lose any information:image.pngOn your discount vs. profit, it's not clear whether you're trying to show a correlation, or an indication of spread. You also have two significant outliers that massively increase the required area of your chart. I would consider categorising the average discount into Low/Medium/High, and then using a box-plot to see whether there was a lot of difference. You'd get much more visual separation, as the outliers would 'disappear' in a measure of spread.image.pngYour filter settings on your Top N by Sales may not be correct. You've got Top 5, but the chart is only showing 1. This generally suggests you haven't accounted for the Order of Operations, where Top N is calculated before Dimension filters, I can't download your workbook to be more specific, though.image.png

On your map, you've highlighted that Mongolia has the lowest sales at $£3.1K, but the mark on the map is NULL (no sales), and if I mouse over Papua New Guinea, it has sales of $1.9K, suggesting that after you've labelled the chart you've changed the filters. Make sure any annotations are correct, because they're pretty static

    image.png

On your Performance per Sub Category chart, I don't know what a red bar and a green bar mean: it's not the size of the bar; if it's the profit margin, you have the number labels displayed as red (which you appear to be using to mean "bad"?), but against green bars (and is a profit margin of 15.3% "bad"? in the industry I'm in we'd bite your hand off for that). Equally, the actual profit from phones and accessories is about the same, so if the message you want to convey is about good versus bad profit margin, I'm not sure this chart makes that point clear. The main message of a chart shouldn't be one of the secondary preattentive attributes of a chart.

image.pngOn your heat map of delays, your commentary says delays have stayed relatively constant, but you've used a colour range that maximises the visual difference (a min to max colour range). Also, the colour isn't related to the value in the cell, and there's no legend to tell me what it actually is. If you wanted to convey a relatively constant amount, then perhaps a scale that was from an exceptional level (0 days) to a terrible level (10 days?), which would then support your message. Having a target might be more appropriate to show where you've done well. If this was a printed report, the colour bears no relation to the value displayed:image.png

If I mouse over, I can deduce that it's the record count, but your user isn't told that anywhere.

Finally (sorry), on your shipping delay hotspots, you have the same colour meaning multiple different values, becuase you're using a dynamic legend. If you change the year, the dark red means anything between 5 and 7 days, but visually, Pakistan in 2023 (5 days) is as bad as Cambodia in 2025 (7 days), despite Cambodia having 40% longer delays, on average. For this chart, I would use a static range, where anything beyond my target, e.g. 3 days, is red. As it stands, if the business was transformed, and the longest delay was 1 day, that would still be considered "very bad red".

image.pngMy two top tips would be: always know the question you're answering - if you want to say something is good or bad, you have to define good and bad, and these will often be static values or targets; when you think a chart is finished, look to see what you could remove without losing any information.

How can I connect to Spatial data stored in Google BigQuery using Tableau 2026.2?

According to the Tableau knowledge base I should be able to work with GEOGRAPHY columns when connecting to Google BigQuery directly.

However I seem to not see the spatial data when connecting.

I created a test table, to ensure I do not bring in anything but what I want to test. However when dragging in this table the query I can see Tableau uses to fetch the data only select string, float and integers none of the GEOGRAPHY columns.

When transforming to Custom SQL, and if I hard-code 1 column manually to ensure it is sent, I can see Tableau wraps this into a sub-query. Whilst the outer query is still only selecting non-Geography columns.

What can I do to connect to spatial data, is there anything I am missing?

The demo table is build using this query:

SELECT

  1 AS id,

  -- 1. BigQuery GEOGRAPHY: POINT

  ST_GEOGPOINT(5.16, 52.77) AS geography_point,

  -- 2. BigQuery GEOGRAPHY: LINESTRING

  ST_GEOGFROMTEXT(

    'LINESTRING(5.10 52.70, 5.20 52.75, 5.30 52.80)'

  ) AS geography_linestring,

  -- 3. BigQuery GEOGRAPHY: POLYGON

  ST_GEOGFROMTEXT(

    'POLYGON((5.0 52.0, 5.1 52.0, 5.1 52.1, 5.0 52.1, 5.0 52.0))'

  ) AS geography_polygon,

-- 4. WKT als STRING: POINT

  'POINT(5.16 52.77)' AS wkt_point,

-- 5. WKT als STRING: LINESTRING

  'LINESTRING(5.10 52.70, 5.20 52.75, 5.30 52.80)' AS wkt_linestring,

-- 6. WKT als STRING: POLYGON

  'POLYGON((5.0 52.0, 5.1 52.0, 5.1 52.1, 5.0 52.1, 5.0 52.0))' AS wkt_polygon,

  -- 7. Latitude als FLOAT64

  52.77 AS latitude,

  -- 8. Longitude als FLOAT64

  5.16 AS longitude,

  -- 9. NULL GEOGRAPHY

  CAST(NULL AS GEOGRAPHY) AS geography_null,

-- 10. GEOGRAPHY via expliciete cast

  CAST(

    ST_GEOGFROMTEXT(

      'POLYGON((5.4 52.0, 5.5 52.0, 5.5 52.1, 5.4 52.1, 5.4 52.0))'

    Hi @DIEGO FERNANDO MARTINEZ RODRIGUEZ

    ,

Yes I am using the latest version of Tableau 2026.2.2, which is why I expected no issues at all.

The query wrapping really bugs me. I was hoping someone else had a similar issue, or at even better had been able to connect using the latest Tableau version with spatial data in BigQuery.

I guess I'll make a case, if I do get an answer I will update this post

I have a tableau table like as shown below

Table border vanishes into half of the cell

I don't know why the table border line is not fully displayed. I have set all border lines across "sheet", "rows", "columns" but still this doesn't show properly.

However, when I hover my cursory around `Region of SoldTo` or `Div Chan APAC` or `Subregion Resp APAC`, I am able to see full border for that specific cell. If I move the cursor away from that cell, the border line again vanishes and turns into half as shown in screenshot above

How can I avoid this?

@shinya mima Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, resizing didn't solve the issue for me. Seems when Tableau has multiple dimensions on the columns shelf, it has some issues rendering the divider/table border completely. If I remove those dimensions, it works fine, but I don't get the exact view that I want.

I was previously aware that I needed to be using the 2025.1 version of Tableau desktop Due to the servers we are using. But one morning I couldn't log on to the server, and mistakenly thought it could be because I was using an older version. So I downloaded the newest version of tableau desktop 2026.  Unrelated - The server issue was fixed and i then opened my tableau workbook in the 2026 version and published it , there was a message that some features may not be available etc. but i published anyway.  I have since deleted and uninstalled the 2026 version, reopened in 2025.1 and re-published. However now when the dashboard is viewed online there is an extremely long wait time on one of my pages containing a map, making it almost unusable online and when it does load the formatting of the map is not the same and doesn't interact in the same way it does in the desktop. My assumption is that because i opened and published the dashboard workbook file  it has been in someway permanently affected, even though I am back  using the 2025.1 compatible version of the application. Is there any possible fix for this without Making a brand new workbook and creating from scratch (this isn't an option due to the time it would take because of the size of the workbook)

    Hi,

Would it be possible to ask your Tableau Server administrator whether the workbook can be restored to a revision from before the issue occurred?

In parallel, you could recreate the affected map in a new workbook using Tableau Desktop 2025.1 and 2026, with the same data and settings, then publish both versions to the Server. This may help determine whether the behavior differs between versions. You could also use Tableau’s performance recording feature in Desktop and on Server to compare where the loading time is being spent.
