There is a limitation on the LEX Send List Email button that prohibits distribution to more than 200 contacts at a time.  This tool is to replace the Classic Mass Email but it falls short to do so.  If my list view contains more than 50 we can't select all without scrolling.  Even if I ask my team to scroll until they can see all 634 contacts and then select all they get an error that only 200 can be selected.  Fine so they select 200, now what?  They send and return to the list to select the next 200?  how are they going to do that?  Which 200, what if they sort wrong?  So much error risk here with duplicative distribution or lack of distribution.  Our users are human so the process needs to be easy.

Does anyone have a workaround?  Did Salesforce really screw this up or am I missing something?

@Tom Connolly Is this still a viable solution? I built up the flow according to your specs but still hitting a 200 recipient selection limitation in the screen flow.

I am seeking advice how to avoid sending emails during weekends and statutory holidays.

We need to stop sending emails when ever there is a Holiday, Saturday and Sunday.

Here one more complexity is Holidays dates may vary yearly.

Email sends may be form Automations or Journeys.

Every email send from SFMC must happen only weekdays and Working days. Holidays list and dates will feed every year into a DE.

Thanks in advance.

To ensure that emails are not sent during weekends and statutory holidays in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), you can set up a solution that takes into account dynamic holiday dates. This involves creating a Data Extension (DE) that contains the holiday dates for the current year and configuring email sends to exclude weekends and holidays. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this:

    1. **Create a Data Extension (DE) for Holidays:**

       - Create a DE to store the holiday dates for the current year. The DE should have at least two columns: one for the date (HolidayDate) and another for the holiday name (HolidayName).

    2. **Populate the DE with Holiday Dates:**

       - Use an automation or manual import to populate the DE with the holiday dates for the current year. You may need to maintain this list annually.

    3. **Create a Query Activity:**

       - Create a SQL query activity that retrieves the holiday dates from your DE and combines them with a list of weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) for the entire year. This query should create a list of dates to exclude from email sends.

       - Sample SQL Query:

    sql

    SELECT

DateAdd(Day,ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY [Date]),'1900-01-01') AS ExclusionDate

    FROM

    (

SELECT HolidayDate AS [Date] FROM Holidays

    UNION

SELECT '2023-01-07' AS [Date] /* Sample date for Saturday */

    UNION

SELECT '2023-01-08' AS [Date] /* Sample date for Sunday */

    ) ExclusionDates

    4. **Create a Sendable DE with Exclusion Dates:**

       - Create a new sendable DE that includes all your email subscribers, along with the exclusion dates generated in step 3.

    5. **Segmentation:**

       - When you create email sends, use this sendable DE as your target audience. Ensure that you use a suppression list based on the sendable DE with exclusion dates. This will prevent emails from being sent on weekends and holidays.

    6. **Automation:**

       - Set up an automation in SFMC to refresh the list of exclusion dates periodically. You can schedule this automation to run annually or as frequently as needed to update the holiday list.

    7. **Testing:**

       - Before sending any emails to your entire list, test your segmentation and suppression rules to ensure that emails are not sent on weekends and holidays.

    8. **Monitor and Maintain:**

       - Continuously monitor and maintain your holiday DE to ensure it includes the correct dates for each year. Make adjustments as necessary.

In August 2019 Marketing Cloud release, it is stated that customers can use the new system data view in query activities at the parent account level to get unsubscribe data for child business units. I cannot find name of new data view in Salesforce documentation, maybe someone has more success? Or I misunderstood the release?

Hi All,

I want to gain a better understanding of when we should and shouldn't be using exclusion and suppression lists, and would appreciate if you can provide some examples of when we should use one but not the other.

I've noticed that Data Extensions are only added to exclusion lists, which makes sense, but if I were to import a new contacts list which might cross over with contacts in my Data Extension, how can I differentiate between whether it should be added to an exclusion list or suppression list?

I know that unsubscribers are examples of contacts that can be included in a suppression list as we don't want them to receive our emails, but if I'm doing a normal send to a Data Extension and some of those contacts unsubscribed from a specific Publication List, will these contacts automatically be suppressed on my next email send to that Publication List or am I meant to add the 'Suppression List' at the time of send?

Your input is highly appreciated.

    Hi Bahsel,

A suppression list includes subscribers who you do not wish to receive to your email communications.

This can include your competitors email addresses, subscribers with a history of spam complaints, unsubscribes from previous advertisers, etc. Subscribers on this list have no status and do not count among the all subscribers list.

an Exclusion list on the other hand contains subscriber with different statuses. You still want them to receive your email communications and are just excluding them from your send for a different reason.

Salesforce gives a perfect scenario for this: You send to an email to list of subscribers A. Later you want to send that email to list subscribers B but it contains some of the subscribers from list A and you do not want them to receive the same email twice. Therefore, you add list A as an exclusion list just for this specific temporary case. This will ensure no one from list A on list B receives that email again. But you do want to send these subscribers another email again at some point.

If you send to a data extension and you specify a publication list, subscribers who appear on that publication list won’t  receive an email if they have a status of unsubscribed. You do not have to add them to a suppression list as well.

    I hope that helps.

    Thanks!

I'm testing out the 'send list email' function by trying to send to messages to my own email addresses. However, I'm receiving a message from Salesforce that it couldn't send to the list.

In the spreadsheet attached to the message from Salesforce, it says for each entity ID, "This person didn't want to be emailed."

These are all my email addresses, and I didn't opt out of emails from the address I'm sending from.

When I use the Test Deliverability function in Setup, that works fine. All those messages go to my inbox. But when I go to send a list email Salesforce won't send it.

This is happening because of enabling the Enable the Enforce Email Privacy Settings , please disable it.

    1. From Setup, enter Deliverability in the Quick Find box, and then select Deliverability.
    2. In the Data Protection and Privacy section, unselect Enforce email privacy settings.

    It will fix your issue.

Hello. I just set up a new campaign with a fresh list of 177 leads. However, when I use the Send List Email feature, the entire list comes back as status "NotSent" and Error Message "This person didn't want to be emailed."

I googled and only found one answer that had to do with field level permissions on the Email Opt Out field. I checked and it's visible and loaded on the lead and contact pages. So I know that's not the issue.

I exported the list and all the opt outs are set to 0. Further, I seeded the list with people I know haven't opted out, but still, the entire list fails. I'm guessing I am missing a setting or setup that is preventing me from mailing my campaign.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hola grupo!

Gracias !

Hi! Ithink (C) Incorrect Sending Relationship because in  Salesforce Marketing Cloud, if the sending relationship is configured incorrectly, the send may fail because the system cannot determine the correct email addresses to send to. This often happens if the relationship between the data extensions and subscriber records is not properly mapped.
