We use the standard quote object for quoting and have a custom text field to use for extended line item information. However, this field keeps cutting off the text arbitrarily; in this particular example it is after 195 characters. The field is a rich text area with a 3000 character limit. Can anyone explain why this is happening?

    Hi Lisa,

The short version: this is a limitation of standard quote templates rather than something misconfigured on your end, and the reason it looks arbitrary is that the character count isn't counting what you see.

Rich text area fields store HTML behind the scenes — paragraph tags, line breaks, bold, font styling, all of it. Character limits in quote templates count those hidden formatting characters along with the visible text. So your 195 visible characters plus the markup wrapping them is hitting the renderer's internal ceiling. That's also why the cut-off point moves around between records: content with more formatting truncates sooner, plain content goes further. Your field's 3,000 character limit governs what Salesforce will store, not what the PDF engine will render.

A quick way to confirm it: take the same content, strip all formatting so it's plain unformatted text, paste it back in and regenerate the PDF. If it runs noticeably further before cutting, markup overhead is your culprit.

On what to do about it:

If you can live without formatting, switching to a plain Long Text Area removes the markup overhead entirely and gets you meaningfully more usable characters, with a predictable cut-off instead of a moving one.

If you need the full 3,000 characters per line item, standard quote templates aren't going to get you there. The usual routes are a Visualforce quote PDF template, where you control the rendering, or a document generation tool — S-Docs, Conga, Nintex DocGen and similar all handle long per-line-item text properly. More work up front, but it's the only way to stop fighting the limit.

One thing worth ruling out first: check field-level security on that field for the profile generating the PDF. If a field isn't fully visible to the user, it can render oddly or not at all on template PDFs. Less likely given you're seeing partial text, but cheap to verify.

    Hope that helps.

Lisa — also worth saying: if the extended line item info is genuinely long, it may be worth asking whether it belongs on the PDF as a line item column at all, versus a terms or details section further down. Line item columns are narrow by design and long text tends to look cramped even when it does render.

Hey @* Salesforce Developers * @* Salesforce Administrators * @* Sales Cloud - Best Practices * @* Service Cloud *   I’m hitting a roadblock with our Google Ads integration and could use some collective brainpower. Despite installing the Connected App and configuring Admin-approved permissions, OAuth attempts keep generating new, uninstalled apps instead of using the existing one.

Has anyone successfully navigated this since the September 2025 updates? Specifically:

  • Why might OAuth bypass the installed Connected App and instead create a new uninstalled app?
  • Are there new policy requirements for Google Data Manager direct connections?

Thanks in advance! 🙏

The AI industry is optimizing for the wrong metric.

Everyone is asking: “How smart is the model?”

Enterprise teams should be asking: “𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀?”

The hardest part isn’t getting an agent to answer a question.

It’s getting it to reliably complete an end-to-end workflow.

Take a customer refund. In production, the agent has to do more than understand intent:

✅ Validate the request against business policies

✅ Decide what can be auto-approved vs escalated

✅ Pause execution while waiting for human approval

✅ Resume from the exact same state later (not restart)

✅ Update the right CRM records

✅ Produce an audit trail for every decision

None of that is a prompting problem. It’s an 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺.

    This really resonates.

One thing I've noticed is that most benchmarks focus on whether an AI agent can produce the right answer.

In production, that's only one piece of the puzzle.

    The bigger questions become:

    • Can it follow business policies?

    • Can it recover from failures?

    • Can it handle long-running workflows?

    • Can you explain every decision it made?

Curious to see how the industry evolves over the next few years.

Hi, We're working on sending offline conversions from Sales Cloud to Google Ads. I've been tasked with researching best practice so I'm hoping someone out there has done this in a way that works well.    Specifically, I'm wondering how you have gone about populating the GCLID in Salesforce and assigning it to Opportunities.   1. If someone clicks multiple ads do you retain multiple GCLIDs or overwrite the existing GCLID?  2. If a user clicks an ad and there is no immediate conversion, but a conversion occurs 6 weeks later from a non-Google campaign, do you assign the GCLID to the Opportunity or do you only assign to opportunities that result directly from a click?  3. Do you associate GCLIDs with specific campaign members or with contacts generally?    I have my own thoughts on this but have been asked to research best practice, so any feedback as to how other businesses handle this would be much appreciated.    FYI we intend to use opportunity created, opportunity stage changes to 'Sale Recorded' and opportunity stage changes to 'Sale Complete' as conversions. We use Sales Cloud (we don't have Account Engagement or Marketing Cloud).    Thanks!

There isn't really a single "best practice" doc for this, it depends on your sales cycle and how much attribution nuance you want, but here's how most businesses I've seen land on it:

    1. Store the GCLID from the first click and don't overwrite it. Google Ads' own attribution models (data-driven, last click, etc) are built to handle crediting the right click internally, so trying to replicate multi-touch logic yourself in Salesforce is usually more work than it's worth. Some businesses do keep every GCLID as a related record for their own reporting, but that's extra complexity most people don't actually need.

    2. Yes, you still assign the GCLID even if the conversion happens weeks later through a different channel. Offline conversion imports in Google Ads support a conversion window (up to 90 days), so as long as the GCLID and conversion timestamp fall inside that, it gets counted correctly regardless of what touched the deal in between.

    3. Associate it with the contact/lead rather than campaign members. Campaign membership can get reassigned or changed later, but the GCLID is really tied to that person's session, not the campaign object, so it's cleaner to keep it on the person record.

The one thing I'd flag before you build any of this is volume. You're planning to send back really late-stage events (opportunity created, sale complete), so the real question is how many of those actually happen per month.

The ad platforms need a decent amount of conversion data to optimise. Google Ads wants roughly 50+ conversions a month, and Meta says 50+ per week to get out of the learning phase. If your late-stage events aren't hitting those numbers, then all the effort of architecting this is largely wasted because the algorithms never get enough signal to work with.

If that's your situation, you're usually better off sending a conversion when a lead is first created instead. It's a weaker signal in terms of lead quality than a completed sale, but without the volume to feed the platforms, the stronger signal doesn't actually buy you anything.

Source: I run a conversion tracking SaaS called Converly, which works with Salesforce, so I see this a lot (particularly the volume issue).

Hello! We use Salesforce Enagagement and frequently use the Email Template Monthly Engagement report with tells us by template unique sends, opens, replies and links clicked. The problem is that multiple contacts from the same account could be in the same cadence and we need to see the reach to unique accounts. So for example, there may be 1000 contacts in the cadence we email each month but that is for 800 unique accounts. Is there a way to show this? There is no field in this report type and I do not see a way to create a custom report type in setup. Thank you in advance.

Hi @Jaime Blalock -  Unfortunately, the standard Email Template Monthly Engagement report doesn’t expose Account-level fields, and Salesforce doesn’t currently allow a custom report type for that engagement data.

A practical workaround is to export the report and calculate unique Account IDs externally in Excel/Sheets. If you need this directly inside Salesforce, you would likely need a custom solution that captures engagement against Contact/Lead records and relates it back to Account for reporting.

You need to raise a case with Salesforce, just be very sincere and there's a change they might reinstate them for you :) Good luck!

I'm looking for feedback on a potential Salesforce design for a large sales initiative. At a high level, we have a nationwide initiative focused on converting a large number of target accounts. The work is executed through multiple partner/agency teams, each responsible for a defined set of target accounts in their territory.

My goals are to:

  • Roll up progress to a single enterprise initiative.
  • Give each agency/team clear ownership and accountability.
  • Track progress toward goals (target accounts engaged, meetings completed, opportunities created, etc.).
  • Ensure teams know what activities and milestones they need to complete.
  • Provide leadership visibility into overall progress and results.

I'm exploring whether a combination of:

  • A single Campaign representing the overall initiative (Accounts as campaign members)
  • Native Salesforce Account Plans (one per agency/team)
  • Account Plan Objectives tied to target account lists (lookup on Account Plan object to campaign)
  • Tasks/Events for execution and accountability
  • Opportunities for outcome measurement

Has anyone implemented something similar where:

  • One initiative spans hundreds of target accounts?
  • Multiple teams/agencies are responsible for subsets of those accounts?
  • Progress needs to roll up from account activity to team goals and ultimately to the overall initiative?

I'd be interested in hearing what standard Salesforce features you used, any lessons learned, and whether there are alternative approaches I should consider.

Thanks in advance!

Your approach seems well structured, especially the combination of Campaigns and Account Plans for clear ownership and reporting. Looking forward to hearing other implementation ideas, and I also appreciate Download PK88 as a useful recommendation.

I have been trying to "enable" Salesforce's Leads functionality with little success, and here are the things I have done/checked:

  • I am using an account with the user license of "Salesforce", which means that I should have full-fledged functionality to access and edit objects.
  • I have manually checked all of our objects in our Objects Manager and I do not think Leads was renamed/relabeled to something else.
  • The profile that my current account belongs to has Leads's Tab Settings set to "Default On" with edit access permissions checked (image below).

Leads not visible in Object Manager or Navigation App Items

  • I have created a Permission Set that also has all of the permissions linked with Leads set to visible and all edit access permissions checked (image below), and assigned this to the profile that my user belongs to (image below).

Screenshot 2026-07-21 at 12.16.10 PM.png

  • I have also made a Permission Set Group with all of the Leads-associated permissions, and have assigned it to my current account as well (image below).

Screenshot 2026-07-21 at 12.18.34 PM.png

This is what my Permissions look like in my user:

Despite the above, the standard object "Leads" still isn't showing up in my Object Manager or Navigation App Items. Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Permission Sets have nothing to do with Object Manager, so the issue could be profiles. You basically need "Modify all Data." The app would be assigned by profile/app but you shouldn't have to do that.

When it comes to the guided sales, what's the difference between Cadence and Sales Account Plans? It seems that Cadence is only available for Accounts, Leads and Contacts while the Sales Account Plans have different application; but when I want to standardize the recommended activities for better account management, which one should I take?    https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.hvs_considerations_sales_cadences.htm&type=5  https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.account_plans.htm&type=5

    It Depends.

Use Cadences if you're focused on standardizing outreach practices—such as standard follow-ups, periodic check-ins, or onboarding flows for multiple accounts.

Use Sales Account Plans if your goal is to build strategic alignment and planning with individual accounts over the long term.

It may make sense to use both especially since you need to use work arounds and third party apps to get the Opportunity involved (which is where most of the sales process and customer journey during the closing of a sale occurs).

To combine the two, create a scalable and repeatable system that helps reps engage consistently day-to-day while aligning with long-term growth strategy for key accounts.

Is this a use case challenge you are currently facing?  Perhaps I can help.
