It is possible to set the default country for geocoding auto-recognition of geographical roles from Tableau Online (we have our own hosted Tableau server) ?
I struggled 2 days misunderstanding why my well structured french region (State/Province role) / department (County role) refuse to display properly on the map.
I finally downloaded Tableau for Mac and realized that the Desktop version has more features than the online version.
Btw, even I added one country field to my region table, feeded with 'FR' and with the "Country" role, the default country stays on "US"...
Do I really need to use the desktop version of Tableau to create each Franch geolocalized report ?
Is there a way to achieve the auto-recognition of the ISO country code in the geo_region.country field ? Should I give a certain name to the field ?
Per advance thanks for your answers !
I did a quick test on Online and Desktop with a field named "Country" and the locations were recognized and localized correctly right away. I know that we have a set of key words that we look for in automatically guessing geographic role, but I don't know that full set for all languages supported (but now I'm going to go look!).
So, perhaps try naming your country field "Country" and try that?
This is what I saw right after adding my data source - city and country were identified right away and dropping city on the map set up the right hierarchy.
I hope this helps! I'm happy to look around more for other ideas if you can send me a sample file to play with.
