Not able to see records in a custom object in sandbox

Hi there,

I have created a custom object and uploaded records but when I created the sandbox (dev org) I cannot see the records when I query. I can only see them in production. I should also mention that the consulting team did create some custom metadata types that include this object. Is this why I cannot see them?
