Why is there a different record total in my tasks report than the number of records shown in the data usage page?

Question

Setup > Administration Setup > Data Management > Storage Usage shows that we have 944K tasks in Salesforce, but a report I created shows that we have 288K tasks. The report uses these filters: Summarize by Created Date; Show All Activities, Show Open & Completed Activities; Show Tasks; Time Frame: From to . I am an admin.

Reports will not consider Archived activities. which might be the reason you are seeing less numbers in the report.
