Currently, we are a SAAS based business and we use Revenue schedules to track recognized revenue when an opportunity is closed.  For example, when we close a $12,000, 12 month opportunity, at the time the deal is closed we would schedule $1,000 in each of the next 12 months and everything works perfectly.

In the above scenario, the scheduled revenue roles up to the total price of each product and the total price of each product roles up to the opportunity Amount.  However, this rollup (which I don't believe can be stopped) is starting to cause an issue for us.

We have recently added some products where the revenue cannot be recognized until the product is delivered.  For example, we may have a $12,000 opportunity over 12 months but we cannot schedule any of the revenue until a portion of the revenue has been delivered.  And, the revenue may not all be delivered at the same time, which is our problem.  In the $12,000 example, we may deliver $0 in month one and $4,000 in month.  When the revenue schedule is updated with that $4,000 it will change the total Opportunity Product Price and in turn will change the amount of the closed/won opportunity.  In this scenario, we lose the Booked Amount since it has changed after the revenue was adjusted.

Does anyone have any ideas or best practices for tracking this recognized revenue separately from the booked amount?  I would like to leverage standard fields like Amount on the Opportunity as much as possible.

Thanks, and sorry for the long-winded question.

    Hi Charlie,

I think this is a limitation of the default product revenue scheduling in salesforce. If you add a product or change a schedule The opportunities associated with that product won't update at first. If you have additional questions or need further details, just let me know and I will be happy to assist further.

You find more on this by going to the following link: https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=sf.products_considerations_for_using_schedules.htm&type=5

    Thanks,
