Set Up Customer 360 Audiences

Implementation Steps

Now that you have some awareness of the user interface and roles, let’s review your initial Customer 360 Audiences implementation steps as admin. Here’s an overview of the eight steps that we cover in more detail next.

Update your admin user.

An email is sent to admins with account login information. Once you log in for the first time you need to reset your password and add the admin permission set to your user.

Provision Customer 360 Audiences. 

Complete the setup of your account in the Audience Setup page.

Create profiles, users, and add permission sets.

Profiles and permission sets help you manage the access users have in Customer 360 Audiences.

Connect to Marketing Cloud.

Connect with a Marketing Cloud account using admin credentials.

Select appropriate data bundles and business units in Marketing Cloud.

Data bundles are pre-modeled standardized data sets. For Marketing Cloud these are based on email and mobile channels.

Connect to Sales or Service Cloud.

Connect your Customer 360 Audiences with the account provisioned or with additional Sales and Service Cloud accounts.

Configure identity resolution rules.

After your data-aware specialist has created data streams and established your data model, you can configure identity resolution rules.

Prepare for ongoing tasks and maintenance.

Set yourself up for success by establishing auditing and troubleshooting procedures.  

Step-by-Step Instructions

Remember, in this module, we assume you are a Marketing Cloud and Customer 360 Audiences admin. If you’re not an admin, that’s OK. Read along to learn how your administrator would take the steps in a production org. Don’t try to follow these steps in your Trailhead Playground. Customer 360 Audiences isn’t available in the Trailhead Playground.

Update Your Admin User

Once you purchase Customer 360 Audiences, you receive an admin email with login information. Follow these steps to set up your user with the proper permissions.

  1. Log in to your Salesforce Customer 360 Audiences instance with the link provided in your admin email.
  2. Reset your password when prompted on-screen.
  3. Navigate to Setup from the dropdown.
  4. Type users into the Quick Find field.Search for Users under setup.
  5. Click Users.
  6. From the user screen, click your username.
  7. From your User page, under Permission Set Assignments click Edit Assignments.Edit Assignments for admin user.
  8. Select the Customer 360 Audiences Admin permission set and click the Add arrow icon.Customer 360 Audiences Admin Permission Set selected with Add button being clicked.
  9. Click Save.

You now have access to the Customer 360 Audiences Admin configuration page. 

Provision Customer 360 Audiences 

Follow these steps to complete the configuration of Customer 360 Audiences. 

  1. Navigate back to the Setup gear.
  2. Click Audiences Setup
  3. Click the Get Started button.Get Started button selected from Audiences Setup page.

If you don’t see this option, either refresh your page or log out and back in with your admin user credentials.

The setup can take a few minutes to complete, so grab some coffee and keep an eye out for the green success message. Seeing green? High-five! Your Customer 360 Audiences instance is successfully set up.

Create Customer 360 Audiences Profiles

Now let’s get back to setting up your users. We start by creating profiles for each of the other three user roles. Here’s how.

  1. Navigate to the Setup gear and click Setup.
  2. Type profile into the Quick Find field.
  3. Click Profiles.
  4. Locate the Identity User and click Clone.Profile page, Clone link selected next to Identity User.
  5. In the Profile Name field, enter Customer 360 Audiences Marketing Manager.Clone Profile screen with Save button.
  6. Click Save.
  7. On the newly created profile page, click Edit.
  8. Under Custom App Settings, select the radio button to make the Audiences app appear as the user’s Default Home page.Custom App Settings with Audiences app set to default.
  9. Click Save.

Repeat these steps for the profile names Customer 360 Audiences Marketing Specialist and Customer 360 Audiences Data-Aware Specialist

You can customize profiles further to meet your company’s business requirements.

Add Users and Permission Sets  

Now that profiles have been created, let’s walk through the steps to create users and assign permission sets. You can do this now or come back to this step later.

Create User

  1. In Setup, type users into the Quick Find field.
  2. Click Users.
  3. From the User screen, click New User.
  4. Fill out the required information for your user.
  • General Information
    • Last Name
    • Alias: This is auto-generated but can be updated.
    • Email
    • Username: Username must be in the form of an email address (for example, john@acme.com).
    • Nickname: Display name for users in online communities.
    • Role: Keep as None Specified.
    • User License: Identity 
    • Profile: Select the associated profile for that user from the profiles you created.
    • Email Encoding
  • Locale Settings
    • Time Zone
    • Locale
    • Language
  • Approver Settings
    • Receive Approval Request Emails

Review your work and once done, click Save.

Permission Sets

  1. From the user screen, under Permission Set Assignments click Edit Assignments.
  2. Assign the appropriate permission set to that user.Permission Set Assignments.
  3. Click Save.

As soon as you complete these steps, your new user receives an email notification with login information, so be sure you communicate with them if the account is truly ready for them to use.
