Can anyone help me understanding what does it mean exactly when I set the Source Object to be MWR and the Filtered Object to be Assets. Does it mean which assets will be used by a specific MWR? I want to generate MP automatically, would this help me in anyway?

It sounds like you're talking about 2 different things. Maintenance Work Rules can be related directly to Maintenance Assets, which is the relationship that determines which Assets are going to be impacted by the Maintenance Work Rule itself.
The RecordSetFilter Criteria allows you to further narrow down and dictate which attributes say on a particular Asset will influence when a Maintenance Work Rule is valid to 'Run'.
