I’m getting ready to move my org over to Salesforce from...well nothing. We're currently on personal rolodexes and spreadsheets. I’ve been struggling with where or not to stay with the recommended Household Account Model or go to the 1x1 Account Model.
Household model only seems to make sense if your using SF to mostly manage donations that are coming from families/couples but that’s not really what we need SF for. We more need to work with constituents, subscribers and the like as individuals and I don’t foresee that much stuff happening that would be made confusing by some individuals living together.
I've heard from others that staff can find households a confusing bit of unneeded data science intruding on their need to access information about a parter or constituent or grant recipient or whatever individual they're trying to look up.
That all being said, the Power of Us topic on Account Models strongly recommends the Household Model. Is there any real downside to using the 1x1 Model? Am I settling myself up for integration or tracking problems down the road?
At Westmont, we use household accounts for mailings and contacts within the households for emails. When mailing to households, we find it easier to pull reports from account, and we don't have to worry about deduplication.
