New custom object, added another field, but it is not available

Question

I created (and have been using and reporting on) a custom object. I made it available for reporting at creation time. Today I added a new field, but that new field is not available in the report builder.

And this custom object's report type is not available via setup->create->Report types for me to choose so I can edit the layout,

I don't recall ever actually seeing the report type, I was just able to use it. What am I doing wrong?

What are the Field Level Security settings on the new custom field?

Thanks for answering!  The new field's field level security is set for everyone to see and use it.   But, I created another report type using the objects I need, and everything is there.  Next time I create a new object I will pay more attention.  (I am pretty new at this, just getting my feet wet).   Thanks again
