I am wondering if there's any way (using a workflow process or anything else that would work) to mark a record in a series of records as most current.
Here's the situation:
We store data about individuals in our database. The individual (Contact) is the master in the master-detail relationship for many other custom objects.
So, the Contact page has many related lists, which are related custom objects, linked by that master-detail relationship.
On those related lists, multiple records can be created that are linked to that contact or individual.
For some of these objects that have to do with dates or changes, I'd like to have some kind of automatic process that marks the most recent record as the "Current Status" for that individual.
I am not sure how to go about this or if it's possible. I don't know a formula to use that works on sorting between multiple records on the same object for the same contact to find the most recent.
Any ideas?

Hello Blair,
Is there a particular reason that you can't use the CreatedDate of each record as an indicator of whether or not it's the most recent?
