How do I add existing records to a custom object related list?

Question

I want to create a object/related list that provides users a list of  leads with the same company but in someone elses name. This would be so helpful when converting leads and removing duplicates, I have a ton of old and new leads that have the same company but different lead owners and need to consolidate. I currently convert all qualified leads and need to develop something that allows me to see all lead assoicated with the qualified lead before being converted, I realize I can search for duplicates but I need to be able to include all the assoicated leads  tied to the qualified lead when being converted. This would also prevent multiple users from working on the same company.

You could create a custom lookup field that allows ypu to link the records together, the tricky part is going to be getting all of the record id to populate the Lookup field.     Which edition of SFDC are ypu using, and (ballpark) how many records do you need to update?
