Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify what the Engineering team does.
  • Define how the Engineering team is organized.
  • Explain why engineers love working at Salesforce.

What Is Salesforce Engineering?

The Engineering team is responsible for innovating and maintaining our products and our massive distributed systems engineering platform—a platform that distributes new features to improve the lives of millions of users every day.

We know that users count on our platform to be reliable, fast, and secure, while preserving their customizations and integrations every time we ship. Our commitment to doing just that is one of the many reasons that this team is so exciting. You constantly get to put your skills to the test, innovate, and solve large-scale problems. Not to mention, the platform is deeply customizable to meet the demand of our vast user base. Let’s just say there’s never a dull moment for our agile engineering teams.

Why Engineering at Salesforce Is Unique

Engineers love our fast-paced development and innovation. Our engineers not only work on the latest and greatest technologies, but we provide lots of opportunities for problem-solving and career development. We encourage our employees to seek out new challenges and stretch their creative muscles. As a company, we stand up for the communities where our employees and customers live, and we highly value giving back.

Work at Salesforce is organized by function and runs on the principle that everyone is “responsible for everything, and owns [almost] nothing.” This means that Salesforce employees are not bound by their org charts. If no one owns anything, and we’re all responsible for everything, we’re also each responsible for reaching out to discover who has the information, skills, or access that you need to accomplish our collective goals. It makes for a dynamic workplace and one where our core values of trust, customer success, innovation, equality, and sustainability lead us to collaborate and do great work together.

However, the real reason engineers love working at Salesforce is summed up by one of our product leaders, “The best thing about my job is the people I work with.”

At the heart of the Salesforce experience is a deep-seated support system we nurture inside our company. We collaborate, take care of each other, have fun together, and work to make the world a better place. And that Salesforce culture starts here—we are going to help guide you through the application process with the same values of integrity, transparency, alignment, and accountability that we use to drive our relationships with our teams, our customers, and our communities.

How the Engineer Interview Process Works

Interviewing for an engineering position at Salesforce is a three-part process: a technical screening (via phone or online video), a remote programming test, and an onsite visit. Throughout this module, we give you the information and resources you need to prepare. Next up, we tackle the first step, the technical screening.
